Well I kinda messed up and put way too much Rocksett on my FH for the m4 1000. I put about 5 drops on there and in the instructions it says to put only 2 drops. That's what I get for being too impatient and not reading thoroughly. Anyway, should I heat up the flash hider? I tried doing a search but nothing came up.
Thanks for your help,
Zack

Listen to HKPDW...rocksett withstands heat better than torque.  Try the wrench first.

Goto Menards and buy a can of MAPP gas instead of Propane gas, it screws onto the same torch but costs more and burns hotter.

Rocksett is rated to 1,100 deg C (about 2200 deg F). It is a waste of time to use heat. However, at room temperature it is not as strong as Loctite. I would suggest a wrench with a 12-18 inch handle.

I have removed 4 "Rocksetted" flash hiders and never used anything but a wrench. All came off easily. Just use a wrench like several have suggested.

If it is on, leave it on.

If you need to take it off, try the wrench first.  Be careful not to round the edges of the flats.  You might try sticking a very think flat blade screwdriver in the slots of the mount for some extra leverage.  Wrap the blade in electrical tape if you are worried about scuffing up the mount with the screwdriver.

If it isn't coming off, time to go to the MAPP torch.  I've removed several M4-1000/M4-2000 mounts this way that absolutely would not budge with the wrench/screwdriver alone.  A little heat did bust up the RockSett.

The heat stop paste is a great idea and I use it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for all the help. I will try the wrench first and if that doesnt work I'll probably just get a new FH. I think they are about a hundred dollars and I am having trouble finding some. I know YHM makes them so I will check their website.

No, YHM does NOT any longer make these for AAC and they never sold them directly.

AAC has a bit of a shortage on their mounts right now due to most going to the military.  We (PSI) buy whatever doesn't go to the military usually and have a healthy supply of all types.  You can order directly from our website.

Let me know if we can help.  Just go easy with that one and it will probably be okay.

Depending on how things go getting the other one off, I probably will end up ordering one from you guys.
Thanks,

Bookhound, I am not seeing the Flash hiders on your website (Precision Sales International) are they special order?
Thanks,
Zack

Yeah, Rocksett will NOT come off with any amount of heat that you can reasonably and safely apply.  Heat resistance is its primary asset, which is why it's used on suppressors a lot.

Contrary to popular belief, Rocksett is not a permanent adhesive.  it's designed to come off with hand tools like blue loctite, but has the heat resistance way in excess of red loctite.

Took some doin' but I got it off. I didn't use any heat, it came off fairly easily. I will still be ordering an extra one in a couple weeks.
Thanks for the help you guys.
