can a .223 can bore be enlarged to .30 cal. for subsonic .30 & maybe 7.62x39 use? in 223 it would be a little louder but have less back press. / gas in the face, right?

Most cans probably can be modified.  The problem would be noise reduction.  What saves most .30 cans being shot on a 5.56 is there volume.  So my guess would be that the 5.56 can would be too small to produce the kind of results you may be looking for.

Makes more sense to buy a 30 cal silencer and use it for a .223

i've been considering just getting a .30 can as well but the con's for me are it's added length & weight. i don't intend to use full power .30 cal. ammo except maybe 7.62x39. any idea how much louder it would be than if it was 2'' longer & .1 more dia.? i want it for an ar15 s.b.r. & a 7.62x39 w/ 180gr. subsonic. were i want the bbl. threaded is .610 so i think it needs to be threaded 1/2 28 anyway. do you think it would ring your ears on an 11.5 ar15 if bored out to .30?

You might want to look at a SAS 30 cal can i think they run 400 and are a great can for the money as far as the reviews that i have read.

One more problem, your talking about using a 30 cal rifle with 1/2x28 threads, may work well but you want as much thickness on your muzzle as you can have and 5/8x24 is the way to go on a 30 cal.

Also i have used a xxx bored out to 9mm "just a example 223 bored out to 9mm" and it worked ok, but i dont think its what you are really looking for i really think you will be happier with a 30 cal can in the long run. Besides why risk ruining a great can ?

just my 2c but i would seriously concider doin this

the bbl. dia. is .610 were i want it cut, not enough dia. for 5/8 or even 9/16 threads. i was thinking 1/2 28 would be as good as i can get & still have some shoulder. 9mm is .35 cal. & threaded 1/2'' & w/ the lighter can it should be ok? i'm not looking for silent in .223, if i could shoot w/ out ear plugs i'd be pleased. the .223 can should have enough valume to work well w/ subsonic .30? a full size .30 can would be alot of overkill i think, especally w/ weight & length. i want as little of both of those as possible? i appreciate the advice so far but still don't have a good enough reason to live w/ the disavantages of the .30 can? any idea were to get one bored out accurately?
