I'm interested. I might order some on Monday to play with. www.yhm.net/store/22Mite.html Take apart 22 can. www.yhm.net/store/SSphantom556.html New Stainless and Inconel 5.56 suppressor. |

Cool Stuff! On a side note, does anyone know what the button/pin/whatever is below the shell deflector on the M16 is? www.yhm.net/store/media/M4_Short_SS_big.jpg |
AZ -- the M4-1000 doesn't have EDM and tapered bore technology. The much more expensive M4-2000 does. If that is a concern, there is a different price bracket for those features as I'm sure you know. Just comparing apples to apples. I like the mount of my Phantom 556 much better than the mount on my M4-1000. It is much more sturdy with more complete lockup. That alone would make all the difference to me if trying to decide between the two. The two (M4-1000 and YHM 556 Phantom Steel) sound exactly the same on the same rifles. With an SS and iconel version and the same weight, I think the YHM would win for me simply because of the mount. |
Just want one for me and my paper expires in Dec. Getting out of the business.
Sorry, I thought the 1000 had the EDM. Why would anyone but a carbon steel model now? |
Just about everything is a Prodigy killer. Funny story...A friend bought a prodigy and we shot a few .22 suppressors side by side. The prodigy sounded identical to an old TAC-52 I own that has about 1K rounds of baffle strikes through it and that I used a cordless drill to drill out the first baffle. The Outback 2 and the YHM that we shot next to the prodigy were noticeably quieter. I'm glad to see some of Mark White's can getting their desserts. |

The chrome moly construction was the only serious shortcoming of the original 556 can. I'm thrilled they're making it out of stainless and inconel now. It looks like they also introduced a 9mm subgun can: www.yhm.net/store/9XL.html |
Ian, nice to see you back. |

I emailed YHM for some additional info about this can. It has a black oxide finish over a stainless outer tube, a solid inconel blast baffle and stainless baffle core. The baffle core is welded before installation, then welded to the outer tube and the endcaps are welded in place. It uses the same mount system as the original Phantoms. I'll look foreward to any range reports once these start hitting the shelves. |

The original Phantom was 1.625" in diameter. The new one is 1.5". They list the weights as 25oz for the original and 22oz for the stainless. But they also list the 762 can at 25oz, and one of them is a mistake. On my less-than-precision uncalibrated kitchen scale, the 762 can weighs in at 26 oz and the 556 is 23oz. That's probably not 100% accurate, but it's picking up a 3oz difference any way you slice it. I emailed YHM yesterday with some questions about the new can, and this is what they had to say: - The blast baffle is solid inconel - The baffle core is fully welded before installation. Once installed they are welded to the outer tube then the endcaps are installed and welded in place. - The finish is Black Oxide - The QD mount has not been modified I'm glad to see them upgrading their already solid products. I just wish I could swap mine in for one of these. |
+1 i just got my Form 4 back for my Phantom QD in early June. now there's a better option for the same price! they should have an trade-in upgrade program! i'm happy with mine anyways.... |
