I saw a dealer who was offering an AR with a permanent can attached making the barrel 17 inches...saying that only one tax stamp was needed and that it didn't qualify as a SBR.....

Does anyone have experience with this?.....

If so, could I buy a 10.5 barrel and have a suppressor perm. attached and put it on my AR?

Has anyone gone this route?.....what paperwork (hassle) was involved?

Thanks

More trouble than it is worth, IMO.

Just get two stamps, 1)SBR 2)can. You will be much happier.

This is a rout I have considered as I live in a state where Supressors ar legal but SBR's are not.

Being from a no SBR State I recently asked the same question.
Here's the thread.

My biggest concern being cleaning the whole thing. Seems like the fowling from the barrel will end up in the can when cleaned.

It may be the only option for some who dont want the suppressor on the end of a 16" barrel.

Unless there was a compelling legal reason to do so, I wouldn't.  It's a cheap way to go and you'll be kicking yourself when you need to service the suppressor.  It will also have next to no resale value.  It services a very unique customer and no one else.

Actually this is a pretty good way to go. I have done several of these for customers and they all love it.
The concerns about cleaning can be solved by using the slotted cleaning jags. And it does save you $200.00.  Most of the people I have done these for have been Law Enforcement Officers who like the idea of the can always being on the rifle. (If you own a suppressor why make all that noise anyway??)
If the time ever comes to switch barrels I can get the suppressor off and either mount it on a new barrel or change it back to the mounting style of their choice for a small fee.

Quite the opposite, I'd NEVER buy a gun without thinking about the resale value.

Some people care about guns, some about money.

Anytime I can trade a pile of paper for a real thing like a gun I am all over that.
