| I recently took possesion of a used M496D. I purchased a brand new Gemtech bi lock that was still in the plastic wrapper. For the life of me, I can't push the suppressor down far enough to go over the locks to lock it in place. Then when I try to pull it off, I have to hold down the rifle with my feet and pull like crazy. Please tell me it's not supposed to be like this. Help! |

Your mount needs to be serviced. You can send it in to us for free service at any time. If sending by USPS it can go to our PO Box. It will spend a day or so in our shop and then be on it's way back to you. We need a copy of your Form 4 and a short letter from you stating what work you would like performed (mount service). This is all that BATFE requires for you to send the can to us directly. Gemtech P.O. Box 140618 Boise, ID 83714-0618 If you prefer to ship UPS/FedEx please call for the physical address. The piston will be removed and cleaned of any carbon build-up. We will grease the piston and reinstall. This will cure the problem. Once we service the mount, you can service it at home using a high temp lithium grease. The new G5 mount has cured this problem. If the mount in your M496D continues to give you problems we can also upgrade it to the newer G5 mount. Regards, Owen Gemtech Sales (208) 939-7222 |

Aggie, +1 on DH comment. I have a 96D also and you can do limited service yourself: Put it on the QD mount just enough to engage the back of the suppressor and turn to unthread the back. Pull the back off and the inner sleeve plus spring. Clean everything with red scotchbrite pad (I made a jig to hold the inner sleeve and chucked it into my drill press at low speed. Sprayed it w/WD40 and then help the red scotchbrite to it until it shines!) Inner part of sleeve I cleaned with a 3/4 bristle brush designed for copper pipe cleaning. Same for inside of body of suppressor. Clean off spring and relube with a high temp (500 degree F) grease (bought at John Deere place for use in their tractors - also can find at a Marine/Boat shop) Reassemble and make sure you pull off suppressor and clean QD mount every 100 or so rounds. Run bristle brush thru sleeve also (cleans out carbon deposits). *** I spray the QD mount w/breakfree each time I mount it - do this especially the first timme you shoot it or it will bind inside the suppressor.*** YMMV but I shoot almost all FA and after I figured out the above cleaning procedure I have had only one time it stuck on the QD and that was in 20 degree weather with a 25 knot wind. FH edited to add: I would still take up DH on the free servicing since you just got the 96D used. That way they can check it out and correct any problems. The above is my standard cleaning procedure that I do EVERY time I come back from the range. |
I believe they said $250.00 to convert the can the last time it was asked. I agree on the cleaning procedures listed above. Do NOT put your m496d away dirty or you will regret it. This is the can's only drawback, and even then If it's kept clean it's not REALLY a drawback! I love mine, even tho I never have time to use it. |
