Hello! New guy w/ Qs. I am interested in obtaining a suppressor for an 20in AR or BHP, and was curious as to the ballpark cost of a can and a reputable source to obtain them. Also, ATF has confused me, What form to fill out and the initial tax $$ amount?

Thank you so much!

there should be a FAQ that details pretty much everything you need to know concerning the purchase of a suppressor somewhere in this forum. i figured i would tell you to look there first because i know someone will come along shortly and yell at you for not doing so.

the fee is $200 and it is a one time fee per item (so if you have one suppressor you pay $200 one time. if you buy a second suppressor, you pay $200 for that one, one time. you don't have to pay every year or anything like that)

some guys on here have been getting very fast turn around times with the paperwork processing, so you could feasibly have your suppressor withing 15-20 days after submiting your paperwork.

Your best first step is to find a handful of stocking dealers in your area. Visit them and talk to them about the products they have. Your local dealers will be a great resource and can walk you through the purchase of whatever you decide on.

In terms of the requirements here are a couple of links that may help you:

Ownership information from SRT -- Click on "Legalities"
Ownership Information from AAC

IMHO some of the best .223 suppressors are:
Yankee Hill Phantom
AAC M4-2000
SRT Hurricane
Gemtech G5

This should at least give you a start.  If you have never heard a .223 suppressed, you should before you buy one so you are not surprised.   Although they do significantly reduce the muzzle blast, they are not Hollywood quiet.
