I'm thinking about getting a multi-purpose can. Primary use would be on a subgun (Uzi & MAC with a threaded barrel), but I would like the option of mounting on a pistol (Glock and/or Taurus 92). What are the pros & cons of each? Are there any other cans out there that I should consider? Should I expect either of these to compare with a full-sized Uzi can? Retail price is within $100 of each other, so that's not really a factor. |
I've got both and Sid_Post is correct. While I have used my Trinity on SMG's it is better suited on a pistol for my tastes. It's lighter weight is a great benefit as no recoil assistance is required when mounted to a Beretta. This also makes it a compact package. The Trinity uses a K baffle variant which I find has more backpressure than the Trident's Omega Baffle. This equates to more gas in your face when used on a SMG. I mention on a SMG since your face is closer to the action (gas) on a SMG (or SBR) than on a pistol. Now the Trident works very well on pistols but remember that it also has a larger diameter than the Trinity so it is going to block more of your sights if that is a concern for you. The Trident's heavier weight will also require you to use a weaker recoil spring on a Beretta or use a booster which will increase your overall length. Or just get both like me. |
Thanks for the feedback. That's what I'm looking for. How do the two compare sound-wise on the same platform (realizing that this is somewhat subjective)? |
I think the Trinity gets a bad rap when it is used in conjuction with a booster. Gemtech boosters are not ported. There are pro's/con's to not porting the booster. The pro is that it rarely needs servicing or cleaning. The con is that it is louder. I have done some testing and put a ported booster on a Trinity and shot it side by side a ported Trident and had about 4 guys stand around to listen. They all couldn't tell the difference. The test was done with the same ammo and both guns were Beretta 92's. Being that they sounded the same, they both may have had some ejection port noise as I usually don't use a booster on a Beretta and maybe the slides were forced open faster. I've compared the Trinity side by side a QD3K (which is very close to the Trident, the Trident didn't exist at the time I did that comparison) and thought the QD3K had a deeper tone which seemed quieter to me. That comparison was done on an MP5. One of my friends wanted a 9mm suppressor and I brought out a MK9K, SWR QD3K and the Trinity. After comparing all of them on his MP5, he chose the Trinity as he wanted to be able to use it on pistols as well. |
