I just got back from picking up my first can. It is an Advanced Armament Pilot. I had my 22/45 threaded, and I purchased a threaded Green Mountain barrel. The 22/45 turned out great! The guy threaded it, moved the sight back, and made a thread protector. He did a really nice job.

I ran 10 quick rounds through the 22/45. Ran like a top. I have not shot the 10/22 yet.

Thanks to Mark at Polite Society for the great service.

Here are a few pics. I'm pumped!

Very cool. I'm excited about my Pilot too. Give us  a full range report with various ammo when you get a chance.

Congrats!

2 nice hosts you have there.   You should look into getting an inexpensive .22 bolt gun as well.  You will be amazed at how quiet a bolt gun is compared to any semiauto.

I've been thinking about a CZ. I have fired one with the Pilot on it, and it is scary quiet.  (Another little service provided by Polite Society)

One question, do the Pilots get quieter with use? I was a little surprised at how loud the 22/45 was, but I was not using subsonic ammo, so I'm sure alot of that was the crack of the bullet.

What ammo did you try?  Try some standard velocity ammo.  Some ammo, like high velocity or hyper velocity, will be a lot louder.

I like the Federal value packs from Walmart.  If you can join us this Saturday I'll bring a bunch of different ammo you can try.

Good 'ol CCI Blazer.

Remember, I'm a NEWB at this. My only point of reference is James Bond flicks....

I guess real life is different!

The CCI minimags work pretty good for me.  But, cheap guy I am, I still like those Federal rounds.

Try some subsonics, and I think you'll be pleased.  Pistols are always louder than rifles, but w/ subsonics, it should still be pretty quiet (kinda like a staple gun.)

Also remember that you will hear the action cycling and you will have some noise as the gasses escape through the ejection port.  That's why I suggested the bolt action.

Nothing is James Bond quiet (tahanks, Hollywood ), the .22 pilot with the right ammo is just about as closse as you can get.

Std velocity ammo will be right at the sonic speed (maybe just shy, maybe a bit over) out of your pistol, but with the longer barrel of you're 10/22, it will have a higher propensity to pick up more velocity.

Play around with diffeent types of ammo.

Be careful with Aguila Sniper Subsonics...  They are heavy and slow, and many barrels will not stabilize that bullet.  You don't want baffle strikes in your new toy.   If you want to try them, shot a lot at them at a paper target WITHOUT the can first, and check the target for keyholing... a sure sign of an unstable bullet.

Good luck, and enjoy your SKK (Silent Kitty Killer )

I tried some Remington subsonics last night. MUCH quieter. Thanks for the tips.

For hunting or serious use, use remington target or something similar- it's going to be more consistent and a little more powerful consistently than subsonic.
