I'm dropping my F4's tomorrow at the Sheriff's office for the CLEO signoff and wandering if they signature "expires". It's an election year and I'm not sure if the current Sheriff will be elected. Can I go ahead and secure his signature and wait to buy my suppressor a couple of months from now (don't have the $$$) or do I have to have the current CLEO's signature that will be in office when I'm ready to purchase ? | An LLC is the only way to fly. No Fingerprinting, no CLEO signoff, you can allow others (i.e. people that you trust a lot) to have access to your NFA items without you being present, the company can continue on forever (your heirs don’t have to jump through the NFA hoops when they inherit your belongings), and the BTAFE seems to have a faster turnaround time for Form 4 applications with a company. Mine only took 19 days. |

I just received my approved form 1 which the sheriff signed of 10/05. I have been pushing form 4s through as my highest $$ priority that's why the long pause. The time between when my check was cashed and when I received my approved paperwork was 11 days total. I must be on there frequent flyer list by now. Sure beats my first form 4 a year ago at 3 1/2 months. And it sure beats some of the horror stories of years that I've heard. I think the BATF should get a KUDOS for the turn-around that they have achieved as of late. There are still MANY issues with them, but I'll give credit where credit is due. Nox |
Interesting as my Sheriff's ofc told me my finger print card was good for 1 month - if I ran another item thru within a month of the first item, she didn't want a new card, if over a month she wanted new prints taken. Local rules...

![]() The sheriff's office has nothing to do with the fingerprint cards other than that's where you might have them done at. Whenever I submit my forms to the local sheriff, I only submit the forms with a copy of my driver's liscense and carry permit. I have my fingerprints done in another jurusdiction because my county won't do it. My sheriff never see's my fingerprint cards. They are submitted to the BATF. |
