Does the regular M16A2 also have the M4 feedramp cuts? what about M16 & M16A1? when did they start doing the M4 cuts?

And what's the purpose? for autofire feeding problems?

thx

Feedramp cuts? AR-15? Really?

Can someone post pics of this. I am thinking about grinding down then polishing with a Dremel. I have had nosedives while doin' da bump. Also, my preban Oly doesn't feed that well sometimes...

The "M4 feed ramps" are in the -- wait for it! -- M4 receiver. There are no "M4 feed ramps" on the M16A1, A2, A3, or A4. Colt's may have them on some commercial rifles, but I'll leave that for the Colt's trivia buffs.

Can someone explain what necessitates these "feed ramps". I've seen them before, and they don't look like anything excruciatingly important since there are already ramps cut in the bottom breach lugs.

so what's so special about M4 receivers?
why do they need these ramp cuts? Don't other receivers have feeding problems?

just more questions.

The steep ramps milled into the receiver are to ensure reliable feeding when switching from various types of ammo and also mag's. If you insert a 20 rnd mag, then try a 30 rounder you can compare how far they both stick up. You will notice the 20 sits lower than the 30.

I heard the feed ramps were made bigger so the Rangers could shoot other types of ammo besides FMJ.

I assume softpoints and such, but I've never had problems feeding softpoints in My AR's

My 91 vintage Colt Sporter Lightweight has the cuts, as does the ZM upper. The pic is blurry but the cuts are there.
