Are the Portuguese .308 and South African PMP .223 ammo decent ammo?  Would you run them through your ARs, M1As, FALs, etc.?  I see these in SGN for around $125 - 130 per thousand.

Is that dandy like good, or like "only a dandy would use that stuff"?

I've used them both with no problems.

Is the SA crimped?

Just got back from the range mere hours ago and shot an ass load of south african 7.62 through my H&K 91.  Not a problem at all.  I enjoy the south african, shoot it all the time.  It comes in sealed battle packs so you no it hasn't been fucked with.  No problem with ignition ever.  I have had a small number of chilean not go off,  but at 12 bones for 100 rds 5 or six not going off is not that big of a deal.  I have shot SA through my M1A, FAL, and H&K 91.  I like it and would recomend it to everyone.  Groups are deffinatly acceptable for battle rifles.

While you can never be absolutely certain with surplus ammo, because it is mixed lots, and small batches can be bad, folks here have shot MILLIONS of rounds of both of those brands/types with no complaints.

I bought a 2700 round case of 223 from ammoman. So far I've shot about 200 rounds of it with no problems. I get 4" groups with it at 200 yds with a 16" barrel.

Eric the ammoman told me that the SA stuff is loaded with a flame-retardent. I noticed in one of the other threads that someone had mentioned that the SA stuff seemed to give less of a flash.

I meant the primers.

It doesn't much matter, because the SA ammo is Berdan-primed, so it isn't reloadable.

The PMP .223 in the 20-round brown boxes (with the gazelle on it) is reloadable. The ammo in the battle packs is not.
