Can anybody give me information about who makes the best AK-74, could you include why they are the best(milled or stamped receiver)and a general price range? Thanks for the information.

Well, you are lucky in that you're choices are pretty limited :).  Unless I am sadly mistaken, the only complete ak-74 clones ever imported into the US were romanian - WUM-2, ROMAK-2, SAR-2.  The first two being all import parts with thumbhole stock, the SAR-2 being the most current and uses a US parts kit so it can have the PG.  The first two were only really imported in limited quantities - it seems there were lots of SAR-2's, but recently the supply seems to have dried up.  I have heard that the fit and finish of the WUM-2 and ROMAK-2 were a bit better than the SAR-2, however.  SAR-2's could be found for $230 wholesale about 6 months ago, but now all the big distributors are out of them.  Any of the other AK-74 clones being sold (like from tenessee guns, for example), are just prettied up SAR-2's.

All AK-74's use a stamped receiver.

I don't know which is best, but I do know that I love my SAR-2. The only problem I've had was double-tapping caused by the US made trigger group. After switching it out to a Romanian-made group, the double-tapping stopped and as an added bonus the trigger was smoother and lighter. Ammo is cheap, recoil is non-existent and since it's an AK, it's reliable as hell. What more could you ask for?

My 2 cents worth is, 1st russian, but hard to get in caliber 5.45x39.  2 Bulgarian, but you have to buy it in kit form and have it built. 3 As stated above, the romanian wum, cur and then the sar 2.

What all is involved in installing the threaded front sight base?  I have a SAR-2 with the Bulgy furniture...I just need the brake now.
