Alright, i got my SS 10/22 last night and i already ordered an extended mag release. the problem is that when i installed it it was a piece of crap. It sticks and just doesnt look good. Are there any good metal extended mag releases out htere?

Second question: Does anyone know where i can buy or find a ruger factory sling?

Thanks in advance

Volsquarten makes a nice one for around 15 bucks, it's metal, in either blue or ss.
I'm assuming you got the cheap nylon one?
Go to brownells.com They also have some by power custom, and clark which are nice too.
you can probably get the sling there too, although it's not a very good one.

1 more question. do i have to buy a rimfire specific scope or will any scope do?
12/3/2001 2:28:19 PM EDT

No, the scope doesn't need to be a 22 specific scope.  Mine wears a Bushnell 6x18.  You might want to pickup a Weaver rail instead of the standard Ruger rail.  I think it is a TO9 Weaver.

Most scopes will work, however the parallax for most rimfire scopes is set at 50 yards instead of 100.

OK, thanks. any suggestions on where to get a weaver rail for a good price? and do most come with weaver rings to mount on th rail?

Just go to Ebay and you can see a bunch of guys selling the weaver rails.  Shoot them an email direct and ask them what their best price for a direct, non Ebay sale is.   Some guy has rings and a rail listed for sale right now.

Just curious: how can it not look right? it's a little hangy down tab thingie. Are you totally repulsed by it, or could it be helped with a little clean up work on the edges and a break-in?
What kind of scope did you want? What do you want to shoot at? It's easy to spend more on the scope then you did on the gun. The factory rail cost $5 and is worth about that much. It's fine for a $70 Simmons, but if you are going to spend $150+ on a scope, have someone a high quality mount on the gun for you.

sorry, grammar anality kicking in here

you see THROUGH something.  You go THROUGH a tunnel.  'threw' is the past tense of throw, to hurl an object.

Cheap 10/22 trick of the day:

Take the gun apart, ignore the manual that tells you not to take any part of the trigger group apart, and pull out that crappy plastic mag release. Then take your original mag release button over to your vice and drill and tap a hole for a machine-type allen key screw (blue or stainless, your choice).

Other option is to drill a hole and use a short length of 1/4" steel or aluminum rod cut to your preferred length, then epoxied in place in the hole.

Don't worry, if you screw up the button drilling the hole, Ruger will send you another one fairly cheap.

Thanks!

Uhh Paul, I see what you mean- that is some pretty ugly stuff- unless it works really well, then it's beautiful! That scope mount however looks intriguing. Details?

Volquartsen now makes the ultimate plinker. they now make their own 22 rifle with a SS reciver that they C&C machine out of a solid block. I have one with a carbon fiber barrel and it is super accurate.

Jboze.......You don't EVEN want to mess with the Bullpup stock! Save your money, it's a POS!!! The sights ain't for sh*t, the sight radius is too small, and they are so high above the bore, that when combined with the 22LR's trajectory, means you won't bw able to hit sh*t, except at the exact range you sighted in. Looks ok, but just a pain in the *ss all the way around. Alchemist.......Wally world just might have the Weaver rail you're looking for, but it won't come with any rings.
