Tell me about these.
Is $399 a fair price?

Boat paddle crap black stock.
One 5rnd mag
ETA: and some BS top accessory rail

I've always been intrigued by the Mini 14, & have a large handful of ARs so this isn't a "I can get an AR for $399" debate

Not a fan of the stock (changed easily enough) but at $399.00 I'd be a buyer.

$399 is a good price. They were that new back in the day.... but then back then making $30k was good income too.

I would probably buy that. Good price, on the border of being a great deal.

I had to translate what you said.

I had a Mini 14 until I got into ARs.  Then the Mini 14 collected dust and was eventually traded off...

There was nothing wrong with it, other than the groups it shot…

The newer heavier barrels shoot smaller groups... But for the right price...

$720-$800 is the "new" price I've seen around.

Great price, I would jump on it. Kind of wanting on for a while now but they are to expensive these days compared to an AR

Want to get your older mini working right? It is the gas block.

The gas block assembly at the forward part of the forend, which is held together with four screws from the underside, is the focus of our attention. Remove the four screws, and then remove the top part of the gas block. When tightening the four screws, use an inch/lb. torque wrench to VERY UNIFORMLY tighten them all with the same torque (32 - 36 INCH LBS), and simultaneously use a feeler gauge to make sure that the gap between the block halves is uniform side to side as they are torqued down. The gas block halves should never touch. If so you've gone to far.

Sold
It sounds like the seller bundled it with a eotech 512 for $800 OTD

The Mini-14 is a good reliable rifle. The biggest weakness I saw was that it was finicky with magazines.

Ruger OEM or US made Thermolds work.

CDNN just has 16" carbines, blued, synthetic stock, threaded barrel and two 20 round magazines for $599

This procedure is essential, but by no means exhausts the relatively simple tweaks that can be made to a Mini.  As long as the muzzle has not been damaged by improper cleaning, your Mini can probably shoot quite well with a few simple and inexpensive mods.

This.

People use cheap crappy mags and then blame the rifle when it doesn't work.

I would give $399 a Mini-14 in a heartbeat just to have another one to play with.

Your "pattern" comes from the rear sight leaf having play in it. They all do. I made shims for mine.

I like mini14s, and that is a decent price.
Don't expect ar15 accuracy or ergonomics, but they run.

I like the Mini-14. It is light, dependable with accessible Ruger mags...

Not a dime-shooter, but it was billed as a ranch rifle, not a precision rifle.

Also... The barrel is permanently attached to the receiver, so you have no options for replacing the barrel. Ever.

That said, I like mine for what it is intended for...

Completely untrue.  These guys have been doing it for decades:http://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/index.php

There are others, as well.  Go to www.perfectunion.com for lots of info on Minis.

CDNN has factory 20s on sale for $22.99 HERE

I personally like carrying a Mini14 with a 20 than most ARs. JMHO YMMV

For four bills I wouldn't pass it up! That's the price of a cheap (right now) barreled upper.

I just had my 580s barrel cut down to 14.5 with a pinned vortex. With a gasblock front sight, tech sight and houge stock it makes a nice canoe gun.

OP: I think that is a good price for the Mini14. As stated above, stick with Ruger mags and you should be fine. I was happy to see the 20rd factory nags for the Mini30 as I had nothing but problems with all but the 10rd Promags in my Mini.

Have not had a chance to get it to the range in its present form but I put my Mini30 into a Archangel stock. I like it so far. Need to take my Aimpoint Micro off my lightweight AR and get to the range. Bought a couple of the Ruger factory 20rd mags. If they work as good as I think they will more will be purchased.
