| I'm starting to look into possibly getting a new front sight for my Ruger SP 101. Right now I have the stock front sight. It's very difficult for me to see the black sight as my vision sucks. This is used primarily for range and in home SD. Anyone know sights to avoid? What would be sights to look into? |

One good choice would be one of the "Fire" fiber optic front sights.
These have a section of fiber optic rod that seems to glow in any light. This looks like a colored dot from the rear. I'm sure Brownell's probably sell one. Another is a luminous night sight. That looks like a white dot in daylight and glows in the dark. Then too, you could have a colored insert put into the existing sight, or just paint it with some fluorescent red model paint. |

Keep in mind that if your are replacing it and like the POA/POI to measure the sight height with some calipers to order a similar sized replacement. One of the easier ways to do that if you like how it shoots is to have an insert drilled and place into the existing FSP (fancy) or just toss some paint on that bad boy (not fancy). |

I have used a dab of gold paint on black serrated ramp front sights used for black targets. That works pretty well for me. |

I think I'm liking the idea of painting some color on that front sight. I'm thinking maybe white?? What paint would work? Everyone likes different colors. A white bar or dot on a black sight works well. The most visible color under all light is fluorescent "Safety" green. Fluorescent red works well for most people. Bright yellow shows up in most light. If you're going with a fluorescent color, first paint the sight with a coat of Gloss White paint and let dry at least over night so it not only dries but fully cures. Then paint on the fluorescent color. The Gloss White acts as a reflector that makes the color "glow" better. You can buy small bottles of model paint in many colors. Just buy some that look good and try a few to find one you like. "Tricks" are to degrease the sight with a solvent or alcohol, and to actually mix the paint with a small stir stick, don't just shake the bottle. The better mixed it is, the better. |

The gun or mount? Quoted:

At least one outfit makes a base to put a mini red dot optic on SP101s with adjustable sights. I won one in a raffle awhile ago and I don't know what to do with it. ![]() The gun or mount? The mount. I know exactly what to do with a small revolver.
