" />" />I recently acquired an FAL and it came with 80 rounds of 147gr Perfecta ammunition.  I shot 20 rounds without issues of the ammo (gun has other ejection issues).  Of the 60 rounds left I unloaded 1 of the mags by hand which was a pain so I unloaded the other 2 by racking the rounds through the gun (done at the range in a safe area). While doing this a round completely fell apart when it ejected!  I thought that was strange and continued and 5 rounds later another did the same thing. I finished unloading the mags and inspected every round. Out of the 40 rounds 15 of them had loose bullets that I could pull with my fingers. None in the mag unloaded by hand were loose. Don't know if hitting the feed ramp loosened them that much but I'm not sure I want to be firing these rounds if they become loose when entering the chamber.

Headspace gauges is where I'd start, but I'm not familiar with FALs. Know who built it?

Even an un-crimped round should not do that when loaded into an FAL's chamber. The lack of crimping and sufficient neck tension to even hold the bullet in place is highly suspect. Refrain from shooting any more if you have any and contact the manufacturer/distributor.

It is simply defective ammo.  The brass is either crappy, and won't hold neck tension, or the bullets are the wrong diameter.  It is possible they did not properly anneal or heat treat the brass during manufacturing, so it doesn't have the properties to retain neck tension.

The failure has nothing to do with you cycling it through the gun, or lack of crimp.

Thanks for the advice/thoughts.  I will contact the manufacturer (says they are distributed by TulAmmo but there's no contact info) and report back.
