I have a chance to purchase a Winchester Model 94AE 30-30, SN6514957, that is reportedly unfired. (Basically, it was a safe queen) I am wondering what it would be worth and when it was manufactured? I was told it was possibly made in 1992 but I am a bit spectacle about the reported date. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

| Wow, thanks for a confirmation on the date! I thought it would have been closer to the late 90s. It does have the safety on the stock instead of the cross bolt safety (I think this is what it is referred to) so I had a pretty good idea it was prior to 2001. Appreciate the help. |

The cross bolt safety was around from 1992 to 2003 when Winchester went with a tang safety.
There's a NIB cross bolt saftied Model 94 in .30-30 in one of the local gun shops. It's been there a couple years that I'm aware of for $800 and it's obviously not selling. It's about $300 less than a new Miroku built Model 94, but about twice the cost of a similar used Model 94 in very good to excellent condition. The real; world price for a new cross bolt safety Model 94 is probably in the middle of that range at around $600. |

in 1999 those winchesters used to sell at Big 5 sporting goods store all the time for $289. Today I see them go for anywhere from $350 - 600 with 400 - 500 being the sweet spot for moving it quickly.
It is a Winchester made in New Haven so it does have some collectability not the same as a pre 64. Today Big 5 sells the Rossi lever guns at $500 which has the safety on top of the bolt. Wal Marts here sell the Marlin 30-30 for $390. |
| Date sounds right, and fair price would be $350-400. I can't see paying any more, regardless of the condition, unless it had the original box. No matter how you look at it, its still a "crossbolt safety" gun, and has no collector's value. The only "safety" guns you can expect any real money out of are the XTR, laminated stock, or Win Tuff models, but I am not sure if any of those where even offered after the safety switch. Unless it is a 7-30, I wouldn't spend more than $350-400 (and that's only if I absolutely had to have a nice Win 94 right now). |
| I don't know about your date being 1992 for the simple reason I had a 94AE deluxe walnut with 1894-1994 stamped on the receiver and purchased 11/1994 with a serial of about 382,000 less than yours. I've even got the box it came in but not the rifle as it was stolen from the steel safe. |
