Hey guys, I'm looking for a solid rifle scope that will be good for a hunting rifle in .30-06. Which brands are best for a nice scope and rings set up around 250? This will be going on a Ruger American so it doesn't need to be super fancy I just want the best bang for my buck.

The leupold rifleman 3-9 runs about $230. An excellent entry level hunting scope  IMO.

Nikon has some solid entry level options as well.

You may be able to get alittle more scope for you money by buying used in the EE. I've always have had good luck with Burris. They usually have some type of combination deal were you get a 3X9 Fullfield II Scope and a spotting scope or a GPS or a pair of binoculars for around the $200.00 mark. They're decent for the money and have a Forever Warrenty.

Nikon will give you more bang for your buck vs Leupold.

In that price range I would probably be looking at the Redfield Revolution series.

leupold / redfield are the ones I go with, but I am no expert.

I just put a VXII on my 300WM.  I am pretty happy with it.

I will throw in another vote for the Redfield line, I bought a 4X12 to put on a 221 fireball last spring and its a excellent scope for the money, very clear optics, check out SWFA sample list, they had a few of them on there a couple weeks ago.

Redfield is good and they have $45 rebate on some of them through the end of the year.

I bought a Bushnell 4200 Elite from Natchez for about that when they went on clearance a couple years ago.  Since then, they've dropped the model numbers and just kept the Elite name.  I believe what they're calling "Elite" now used to be the "3200 Elite" line.  I'm happy as heck with my 4200.  You can get the regular "Elite" for around $260 - $280 from SWFA.

Zeiss Terra line can be had for 300 to 350.  Outstanding glass for the money.

One is on my Christmas list.
