if this has been discussed before, I apologize, since I am fairly new.

I see everyone discuss if SH... hits the fan, what the have and such, I was wondering what everyone's scenario for that is, everyone sort of has a different scenario in mind IE: hurricane looting, race wars, armageddon, zombie apocalypse etc etc, and how they're prepared for any of this.

My scenario is simply I foresee the possibility of a massive hurricane hitting my area in florida, something katrina style and massive looting/anarchy. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a prepper, but I keep a few hundred rounds of each hand gun caliber I own (.38, .40, and .45) and a decent amount of shotgun ammo for defense purposes. my family is much more prepared firepower wise so considering things got real bad I'd be combining forces anyway. I have a few 5 gallon jugs for water and a few propane tanks with a freezer full of meats. worst comes to worse I am skilled enough at hunting, and fishing  that I could provide food if need be, depending on how long situations are bad, and again I have family who stockpiles canned goods, so I'm sure that would come into play.

I'm by no means all prepared for anything thats coming for me, I'm definitely not a candidate for "bug out preppers" tv shows, but this is the reasonable situation I see happening for me in my area, and the steps I've take so far for it. so whats all of your scenarios and steps you've taken to prepare???

MODS: if I put this in the wrong forum please feel free to move it, I didn't think so much on where this would be good to be discussed

You're fucked if your plan is Hunting and fishing in SHTF. Look at the $99 generator thread in the survival forum. Get a boat load of long term storage food, more fuel, water purification tools, look for the $45 HAM radio thread, take an emit basic course, spend $200 on a Stihl chainsaw, handful of $30 streamlight's, and a spare Coleman camp stove.

Weapons and ammo mean nothing without a suppressor and ideally a PVS14. #ownthenight.

this is what I'm trying to figure out, what everyone considers SHTF, are we talking post apocalyptic scenario??? I described my scenario, I was looking for what others view as what would happen, NOT A CRITIQUE on my preparedness. and BTW, I have a generator, and not relying solely on hunting and fishing, just stating the skills and ability is there if need be, but thanks for being a jerk, I appreciate it so so much

Consider it tough love around here.
The most likely SHTF will be a hurricane/misc natural disaster, job loss, unplanned pregnancy, major car accident or another financial recession.

We all love to jerk off to zombies but this is a tech forum still.
Realistically, if you have a long gun and handgun for those over 15 in your home, shift your focus/money to investments and savings/food/water/medical/commo.

After that, maybe nvgs, suppressors, BOV, body armor or other tactical gear, ammo fort, etc

And I'll say it again in case it didn't compute: software > hardware.

That reminds me, can you ruck, sprint 300m, do a pull-up, climb a 6' wall? Fitness is key to life, especially SHTF. SHTF could be type two diabetes or a heart attack at 45.

I personally don't believe the zombie hype, it all kind of annoys me, I'm simply interested in what other people think is going to happen and how they're preparing for it, wasn't necessarily looking for suggestions.

We planned for riots if BHO didn't get reelected, riots after Zimmerman verdict, every hurricane and tornado season, every winter, every time a new anti 2A bill is introduced. We prep for our kids to go to college, for retirement, for family vacations, for our spouse to drop down from full time to part time.

We prep for reality, and sometimes for zombies.

FYI, around here, "zombie" is synonymous with any group of people that may come out of the night to do you and yours harm (read: people that would riot if there isn't JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON). Zombie is a politically correct term

You have to assess what the most likely stuff to happen to you or your family that could put them in serious danger. Before you spend a dime on preps you should have all of your financial stuff squared away, debt minimized and a steady income. Being put out on your ass is happening all over this country. Debt free with a healthy savings should come before anything. In the meantime set aside a few canned goods extra every week you go to the grocery store, meet like minded people and learn as much as you can. Real knowledge could be alot more valuable than a cool guy high end AR when the SHTF.

Welcome to the forum. Ask away. We will help you out in any way we can.

thanks, as I stated though, I was asking because I want to know what everyone expects to have happen, what everyone else is prepping for, and how they're doing so, just curious what everyone considers SHTF

When congress doesn't approve a budget and my LES shows half a paycheck and i'm still expected to go to work. Thats my shtf. I have almost no preps, but guns, ammo, body armor, and i know people with food and not alot of security.

So, you're "that guy" who thinks he's just going to take what he wants from lightly armed food stockers because you feel outfitted like a grunt?

You need thicker skin. Many of the guys in this particular subforum have seen the SHTF for real and survived. They are deep wells of knowledge when it comes to knowing what it takes to survive in a hostile environment. You didn't get a rude response, you got a serious answer to your question which has been asked and answered many, many times in the past.

The scenario we prep for as its the most likely were we live is a disruption of electricity to the house.
Wind blows too hard, power goes out.
Too much snow, powers out and who knows for how long.
Biggest concern is big assed blizzard and power goes so we're stuck with no power for a couple of days.
So we have some smallish wind generators, batteries, diesel generator for the furnace and kitchen 500 gallons of diesel and plenty to eat and wipe with.
Fireplace and cords upon cords of firewood.

Oh, and zombies.
