Hey guys, my buddy and i went to sight his CETME in this afternoon and the thing would have like 6-10in groups at ~50 yards. The barrel and muzzle looked in good shape and he was using federal 7.62. I too couldnt get it to group much better than that 6-10in range. So do you have any thoughts on why this is happening?

how old is it? most of the first ones made used new unfired parts kits but some of the last ones used well used parts kits with barrels that were just about shot out.

Did your buddy thoroughly clean the barrel ? I suggest some JB Bore paste. Then a complete disassembly and lube.

The problem is that it is a CETME and this is coming from a CETME owner.

Hi zackie_jack,

Was the Cetme in question obtained second hand, well used?  Cetme's get a bad rap, and there are likely many undesirables out there from Century Arms but there are also many good ones so don't give up too easily, most likely this can be corrected.  I recently picked up one with the cast stainless receiver.  I chose a cetme because it is blowback operated instead of a gas piston system.  This is important because I wanted to shoot my own lead cast bullets and not worry about fouling up a gas system.

I soon found out that it suffered from the same bolt-gap issues that many do and the previous owner was completely unaware.  Now, I don't know if this can cause accuracy issues but it can inhibit smooth functionality and safety.   With a Cetme this would be the first thing that I would suggest checking, it's not hard to do. I won't try to explain here because there are many tutorials out there that will do a better job.  Many times the gap issues can be fixed by simple changing the rollers, which are available in many sizes, which is what I did.

You will also find that some Cetme's had a ground down bolt.  This is something else you should find out about yours.

It's a great firearm, I REALLY am fond of mine.

Best Wishes,
MJ

Do a bit of research on the cetme. There are many things that can be wrong but primarily it's because they were built by ;monkeys on out-of-spec receivers with worn out parts kits.
That being told, my cetme made me most proficient in  the wescog school of gunsmithing. Weld, solder or grind!

If that's you're only problem I'd say you found a keeper

<------ former cetme owner. . . never again.

agrred but that is xtreme for a 50 meter group 100 meters ok start by seeing if the front sight ost is not bent, loos, or just wrong. also which rear aperture are you using.

Are you using the 100m 'open' aperture (which is useless IMO)?

Which Federal ammo were you using?  Some guns just don't like some ammunition.

he was using a Nikon buckmaster scope, shouldnt make too much of a difference, but i know with irons you'd be pretty safe if this gun was aimed at you... As for the ammo, it was federal FMJ, not sure on the weight, probably 150gr.
