Well I was looking at getting another Encore rifle barrel and have it chambered in 30BR for a deer rifle, but trying to find a decent TC smith with a 30BR reamer is not easy. I was in my shop a few weeks ago and was fondling some 450B brass and said to my buddy "it just screams to be necked down" and he informed me a similar round was already available, the 30RAR. I had never paid attention to the round when it was released so I didn't realize it was basically a necked down 450B. I talked to my TC smith and he informed me he had a reamer for 30RAR, and the day before yesterday I stumbled upon 1K rounds of 30RAR ammo for 150$, so a 20" Encore barrel is being chambered for 30RAR as I type this.
This round HAD enormous potential, but alas Remington screwed the pooch and enlarged the rim to a bastardized dia that no other ammo uses to ensure a 450B bolt couldn't be used to fire the 30RAR round and Remington as usual insisted upon their typical shallow shoulder. Luckily the TC Encore doesn't give a rats butt about the rim dia. and in the future a reamer will be cut by PTG with Ackley Improved specs, straight case walls and a 40 degree shoulder, and a 30 ARAI will be born, LOL |
