| I know I am not the only one who has thought about this. I am contomplating ditcihing my 308 battle rifles (FAL and M1A) and downsizing to 556 only. I was going to pick up another FAL but after thinking it over, it won't be shot much so what is the point? For those of you have done this or thought about it, you think this is a good or bad idea? I don;t shoot the 308s that often. Ammo is hard to come by at good prices. I am starting to get an itch for an AUG or something similar. Thoughts? |
| consider a 300blk upper along with the standard 5.56 upper if you reload, it opens up a bunch of fun options, so much so that my 5.56 sees little action these days. Brass is easily made from 5.56/223 brass. I have started to cast my own bullets and that lowers the cost for a day of tagging steel plates and coke bottles to something that wont break the bank. |
| Reloading is the key. I'm keeping my .30s because of bullet compatibility - use same bullets in .308 for an AR10 and FAL and in 30-06 for a Garand and bolt actions. Use the same powder and primers also. If I didn't reload there would be no way I could shoot them now. |

In the end it is your decision.
I just recently sold My L1a1 and took the money to buy a AAC Mod 7, .300 blk. My reasoning is , I just don't shoot it that much. I still have 2 .308 bolt actions, and my M1919A7, so I have a need for .308, just not the L1A1. I have tried consolidating ammo and guns. My goal was .223 ARs .308 Battle rifle, bolt actions and of course the M1919 But then I just did not want to sell my m91/30, I don't shoot it much but it is accurate, Then I got into the 300 whisper, then 300 blk. plus I built several AKs and like them to. I am failing horribly. With Pistol I have had a little better success. I got rid of both of my .40s and my 9x18 and my .380 ACP. This left me with 9MMs, .45s and one .38 sp and one .357 Mag. |
