I'll take it for granted that everyone else is having a hard
time with getting 9mm and .308. I wonder when the supply is going to get better. |
| I was in a big shop last Sunday and they usually have 9MM when most other shops don't, you might pay a buck or two more for it but its there, they were out and the way it sounded they had been out for awhile. I hope its by the end of the year, whenever gun control is not a term we hear or read about in our daily lives, maybe then people will slowly ease out of panic mode. |
| Every component of the supply chain is f*cked right now. Manufactures are having trouble getting raw components, wholesalers and warehouses cant get manufactured ammo, and retail sellers cant get cases fast enough. Id say we are a yr out, at least. Sucks major azz. |

Ammo forts. They're not just fun to talk about, they are really nice to have in times like these. I will easily weather this storm, gonna shoot a lot of .308 this year. Any words of wisdom on aquiring one? I assume it's a combination money, a reloader, and time to reload and find deals. |

It may clear up by Christmas. Or it may never get better; I don't really care anymore. I saw this coming and made appropriate preparations. For anyone who didn't, this is not the time to buy guns and ammo. This is the time to buy rice and beans. Or come back later, and talk about how THOSE are are hard to find. |

Any words of wisdom on aquiring one? I assume it's a combination money, a reloader, and time to reload and find deals. Time and money. I reload so my goal was to always load 25% more that what I used up at my last range trip. Don't guess I've fired a store bought round in ten or more years. Buy components in bulk. My last buy was 24 lbs of rifle powder, 16 lbs pistol powder, 5k each of large/small rifle and pistol primers, and I get pulled military surplus rifle bullets 1-2k at a time and shoot lead in my pistols. Learn to load with what is available. I've changed rifle powders three times based on availability and cost. Be flexible - any .30 bullet will fire from 30-30, .308 or .30-06, any .311-.312 bullet will work in .303, 7.62x54, 7.62x39, and 7.7. Pistol powder and pulled 7.62x25 Tok bullets work great in a M1 carbine. Most AKs will handle a .30 bullet fine. Take cheap Bulgarian ammo, pull the bullet, put a good >311 on it and it will be scary accurate in a Finnish Model 39. Take the pulled bullet and load it for a blaster AK round. So get what's cheap and adapt. never shoot a store bought round if you can reload it. And scrounge brass like a homeless Vietnamese. |

Shoot half of what you buy, store half. That's what I did for a few years.
+1 For every 100 rounds I buy, only 50 go the range. I've never tapped the stocks at home- the current situation doesn't warrant that, to me. I have some 7.62 M80 ball inbound at 62cents/rd and some 5.56 XM193 for 42cents/rd , which is more than I used to pay but not as bad as it seems for most. I won't complain. |

I can find basically all the ammo I shoot locally now, but just not in one place.
.308 and 7.62x39 are at Cabela's, steel cased and brass cased. The Cabelas store has more .308 ammo than any type in stock than any other caliber. Black Powder is at Bass Pro. 9mm and .22lr is at KCR. .223 is at Walmart and occasionally at the others. I shoot mostly handloads except for x39 and x54R since late December. I go out at least 2x a month for either practice or matches. I truly haven't really stopped finding ammo, its just not as easy and its not always in the "right" place. I have to go to 2-4 stores to get what I want to buy, but I don't really mind. I just wish the prices would come down, and slowly they are. Heck I got a 1000 box of Small Rifle Primers for $26 with tax a few weeks ago. Just sitting on the shelf. I thought I had hit the lottery.

so many people are getting into shooting and buying guns due to the obama scare. There is going to be no ammo for 2-3 years. People bought ONE MILLION AR15's this year. Don't expect to see 223 ammo on the shelf any time soon. Yea, they bought guns because that's what the rest of the lemmings were doing. But if people weren't shooting before I'm not sure those guns are going to be burning through a lot of ammo. Years from now I foresee a lot of next-of-kin bringing unfired ARs to LGS. They'll have the original 30 round mag still jamn packed and a box of ammo with 10 extra rounds in it. The guy behind the counter will turn to the other guy and say, "Yep, another Obama special". |
