I recently posted some pictures of my AR but it seems like everyone is more interested in the bench I built. I wanted to share the plans I used and a couple tips.
I looked all over the web for a good set of pans or even a bench I really liked. Once I found these plans I modified them to make it the way I wanted it. I also plan to incorporate a brass catcher some time. Back to the web for ideas.

Plans

Tips

Make the front brace 33" not 36" like the plans show.

Use 2x4's and 4x4's if you want a lighter, portable bench. A lot cheaper too.

If it is a permanent bench use the 2x6's and 6x6's and set in the ground 9" as per the plan.

If you want to add wheels try harbor freight. I found my 10" wheels for $4.00 each. And a couple bolts nuts and washers.
You will need to cut down the legs in the front and back if you add the wheels.
Also notice the 4x4 blocks attached by eye hooks. Once you have it set up at its location slip these under the front legs to slightly raise the wheels off the ground. This helps prevent tire damage if sitting for a long time and also slightly more stable.

The total cost for this bench is around $75 including the wheels but not screws.
Measure carefully and layout your cuts to maximize the most out of your materials.
Now go make one, modify it the way you like and post back to show them off.

I like it. it seems like even if your were building it to be a permanant bench 6x6's would still be overkill for a shooting bench.

I have one just like it, minus the wheels that a friend made for me. Works great.

I agree the 6x6 is over kill. That's why I went with 4x4's.

nice bench     I wish we had an army issue like that.....come doonsday  you best get used to eating ants when firing a weapon   .  hobbies are fun  but don't get lazy  and only fire from a condo seat.....  learn the dirt and learn to live........

This is mainly for the precision rifles or sighting in. We are still building the range and plan to have many different real life situations including logs, barrels and dirt. The max distance for the summer range will be 150 yrds and up to 600 yrds in the fall.

well done.....

I am always jealous of people that can do things like this.  I have no abilities in this regard......

It wasn't hard to build. I think if you took your time you would be fine. Remember measure twice cut once.
