Question Gentleman,

Walmart has a 770 in 7mm, 24in. barrel for $297.00 with 3x9 scope.  Is this a good rifle for the price Would like to use it for Florida hog and deer hunting. I don't need anything fancy so for the price I thought this would fit the bill. Thank u in advance for the input.

Everything I've heard has been bad. Never shot one myself, but have handled a few. Id suggest a Savage 110 or 111.

No

They are utter crap and so are their optics.
Get a Stevens 200 and a Nikon Prostaff if $300 is your budget.

Please do not buy the 770

770, if I recall correctly uses a press fit barrel.  It is essentially a throw away design.

run away fast

as mentioned look at the following rifles:
Savage 111F series
Stevens 200
Savage Axis
Weatherby Vanguard
Howa 1500––-this rifle and the Vanguard are the same rifle just rebranded
used post-64 Winchester Model 70
Remingtopn 700 SPS or used 700 ADL
Marlin XL7

I believe there were some headspace issues because of this.  The barrel would tend to work its way out of the receiver when fired and thus increase the headspace.

If you gave me one, I would hunt around for someone dumb enough to buy it off me for whatever I could get. Friends dont let friends buy a model 770 rifle. They are shit.

That said if you want a good budget bolt gun, take a look at the savage Axis. Also have heard good things about the marlin bolt guns and they are in the same price range. Also, they are fairly new but the ruger budget rifle looks nice, I thinks its called the All American or something like that?
