Wow.

Given inflation, their prices are appropriate for the year... 2050.

Back before the show, they had some of the cheapest prices for custom AK work. I had a two rifles done by them and the work was great. Turn around time was a little long...about 9 months. Even spoke with Will directly several times. Seemed like a real nice guy. Now....

I picked up the annual AK magazine recently.  Someone had an ad in there for an AK part, I can't remember what it is right now, but the ad said "It's a Game Changer!", obviously just to screw with Red Jacket.

It's no surprise that Red Jacket pricing has skyrocketed.  Any company that gets the exposure of a TV show will take full advantage of it.  It could be the difference between having to work into their 60's like normal people or retiring in another few years, most likely selling the business, and their customer base, for millions.

Although most of us feel it's total BS, most of us would probably do the same thing.

Got my RJ Polish UF for $700 when Atlantic Firearms had them. Top Notch, fuck the haters

The only reason I can see people buying that stuff is if they truly had no idea what fair market value is on it. $1925 for a cleaned up wood stock AK? Really? I mean... REALLY? I guess, what I am trying to say is––-yes, they could retire young if they sold some stuff, but who is buying at those prices?

Either real hardcore fans of the show who think they will be one of Will's best friends or people that feel a RJ AK will be a collector's item sometime. I'm not saying their work isn't top notch.  From what I've read from people who had work done by them before the show, they are the place to go for quality, personal work.  If they keep that reputation with their fame and higher volume of builds and sales, good for them.

Their prices are still crazy, though.

I have noticed they produce some models with prices similar to whar Arsenal sells their for.  Big difference between their mid grade and high end product is the work put into the rifle.  Instead of leaving unused holes empty or filled with rivets, they fill the holes in grind the welds flush, and re-paint the receivers.  Other than observing cosmetic stuff, I've never tried their product, let alone back to back with anyone else's to pass judgement on anything else.

I'm not a fan of the show and don't plan to buy any of their stuff, but I give them credit for taking the opportunity given to them and running with it. Dumb or not...they are making money hand over fist.

Its basic economics dood.  After their television career took off, demand exploded while supply remained relativly static.  Keep bumping up the price until your demand=output

ETA: on a side note, I love how in some episodes Will says "it aint neva been dun before"  Then later in the episode he's calling up a buddy for help who has done somthing extremly similar if not the exact same

you cant even assume any of what you see is real. NONE of the encounters on the show are real. Every person goes through a casting or talent agent (the shows agent, not the fake consumer). Every entry, walk to the counter, verbal exchange and exit of the store is shot dozens of times, planned out to the "T" and the verbal exchange is loosely scripted and massaged to create what the non gun producers and the field director for the day's idea of entertaining television is...

if'n their prices on their website are outrageous, thats another thing... but the scenes and participants in the show are as "reality based" as desperate houswives...

I don't know what company does the casting for Sons of Guns, but a company called Metal Flowers Casting casts all the "customers" for the show American Guns.  That company was recently casting for a new gun show for Spike called "Gun Tards" (like anyone is going to take the show seriously with that for a name) which was planned to be the Top Gear of the gun industry.

None of. the "customers" just randomly walk into these shops.  My understanding is that the casted "customers" do actually pay for the guns they have built.  So, although it is all scripted, I guess you can call them "customers".

When Chris came onto the show for the door mounted  240 I was a bit surprised . Chris closed the doors on his bussiness in my home town . THE ONLY gunsmithing shop within 40 miles. He had work backed up for a year at least. He is a real class 3 dealer. I guess the over seas deal was more lucrative.

I wouldn't gauge the work RJ does by what's seen whipped together for a silly TV show.  For those not familiar with their operation, they have about 30 plus other employees in 3 different shop buildings producing various products.  I'd have to see their product and know where their parts come from before making a judgement on their real product's pricing.

As over-the-top as many of their "projects" are, while at the same time trying to pawn off an AR build with a lightweight hand guard as innovative or ground breaking, I can appreciate the show for 1 thing.

They are bringing the world of firearms to a broader base of the population. The more the public gets used to the idea of firearms being more commonplace than they may believe, the better. Of course, the over-the-top stuff can hurt in the same regard, leading the public into thinking all firearm owners have quad mounted machine guns and anti-aircraft cannons.

Word, while a somewhat more legitimate character Coastie Costa has followed the Red Jacket/Jessica Simpson marketing model to a "T". Establish fan base, multiply exposure exponentially, then slap logo onto shit and charge 3x. Profit, and alienate you entire original fan base. never to be taken seriously again.
