Living in MA, we still have to comply with the AWB.  I have several pre-ban Colt AR's, including one registered SBR and enjoy them all.  The problem with my Colts is that I can't bring them to CT for a class or match since they are banned by name there.  I had boxes of spare AR parts, including a stripped receiver or two, so I decided to assemble a ban-compliant AR-15 that would also be CT compliant, since Colts are banned by name there.

Since I had to have a fixed stock, and absolutely hate the idea of a collapsable stock pinned in place, I went with an Ace ARFX stock.  IMO, they are the most comfortable buttstock out there.  The only issue I have with them is the lack of a good sling attachment point.  I don't like putting the sling mount on the bottom of the buttplate, and putting it at the front of the buttstock is not balanced and makes the buttstock hang away from your body.  Nothing seems to work just right for me.

The solution took abou 5 minutes and is extremely easy to do.  I got a sling mount from Yankee Hill Machine which has a #10-24 threaded stud.  I removed the buttplate from the stock and removed the rubber pad.  I drilled and tapped the buttplate right in the middle of the upper and lower tubes of the stock and installed the sling mount inside the stock.  It's easily used from either side, is completely out of the way, and keeps the rifle balanced and tight to your body when hanging.  It's the best improvement I've made to the stock.

Thanks for sharing your mod to the Ace stock. Great Idea!

I have the same stock on a couple of my AR's...I think I'll have to do the same

Nice mod.

So Connecticut bans Colt (of Hartford, CT) from civilian ownership? That is pure brilliance.

Don't you know, Colt rifles kill babies. They are at least 50 times deadlier than any other brand of AR.

Yeah.  Makes sense, huh?  I find it funny that CT guys crap on MA all the time.  I can have Colts, Machineguns that don't have to be modified to full auto-only (CT can't have select fire!), and gun clubs are between $30 and $120 here in W. MA, unlike CT where the clubs rape you on the fees.  Sure, we have the mag ban, but I have boxes of pre-ban mags for the semi-autos I own, and even though we have the "list" of what handguns we can buy, we can get anything we want legally.  The only penalty is against a licensed dealer who sells a "non-compliant" handgun.  I've had my unrestricted LTC since I turned 18.

MA still sucks, but I'd take it over CT any day.

Porcine83 you have no idea.  Our state law makers banned guns by name that they knew of.  Colt is made in Hartford so they knew about them.  So they banned the Colt AR-15 by name.  All other preban AR's are legal here.  People who had them could register them and are grandfathered.  When they sell them, they have to do it out of state so slowly there will be no more colt AR-15 preban's here. Other funny guns are the Thompson semi Tommy gun and the Linda Carbine.  How many gang-bangers use a Tommy gun??????
