I'm thinking about getting an Alexander Arm's .50 Beowulf Upper and piecing together my own AR. I'm curious if anyone has purchased from them or had any experience with their rifles. Also, I know it's probably an impractical cartridge/gun but I want to purchase this for my father as a surprise and it would likely be a safe queen. I tried searching but couldn't find anything and thought I would ask you guys. Thanks!

A buddy of mine has one and loves it, he also has the Grendel and no complaints on cust service. I opted for a 450 Bushy...

They are expensive to shoot, but if you reload, you can eventually cut down on ammo costs.

Would seem there are more available bullets in .45" than in .50" - many .45" cartridges out there, 2 well known in the AR, .450" Bushmaster & .458" SOCOM.

Nice gift.

I have the AA OverMatch Plus upper, and replaced the carry handle with BUIS and an EoTech XPS. Hand loading resolves most of the ammo availability issues. I do not load, and purchase directly from AA. As long as you are open to options, they usually have something in stock, however, with the case of the Brass Spitzer "dangerous game" loads, I waited for approximately 7 months to receive them. If it is for hunting and duty use, ammo is not too bad. Plinking, however, can get quite expensive. I recommend spending a little extra and getting the muzzle brake, or at least making sure you get the barrel threaded for one, to be added later.

Depending on your intended application, the Beowulf can give a real wallop to game, and I have found it to be a good hog round. Without a brake, like I usually run mine, the Wulf will definitely let you know you fired it.

Hope this helps.

I have a .50 Beowulf and I wouldn't say it is fun, but it is interesting to shoot. The recoil is similar to a 12ga slug.

I have one... it packs a punch and is EXPENSIVE to shoot unless you reload, which I do.

My son and I have been shooting the Wulf for four years now. We love it...My son loves it so much that I finally bought him his own for Christmas. My son just turned 15...

The price of the ammunition seems to be coming/creeping down. Hell, I remember guys selling Wulf ammo on the old 50 Beauwulf site for $500 for a case of 200 rounds...and getting it! It's still gonna cost you a buck a round, maybe a little less from time to time, to shoot. Like the above poster said reloading your own is the best way to go.

As far as recoil goes...hahaha...That some bitch kicks like a Clydesdale. We have tried various brakes and the King Armory, KA-0450, muzzle brake has worked best for us. The felt recoil is significantly reduced...I'd say by as much as 50%. We also have played around with different stocks and various buffers and springs.

I'd say go for it...Have fun and be safe!

they are a hoot to shoot.
