Anyone have experience with one of these? If so, what do you think of it? I'm particularly interested in how this gun stacks up against the Remington Tactical Target and the CZ 750. http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-target-tactical.aspx http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-750-sniper/ I'd also be curious as to what you think of the Savage Model 110 BZ http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/110BA |
| that Rem Target Tactical is okay but not for the 1600 price tag, it has the triangular VTR barrel, you'd be better off buying another model and re-stocking it with that B&C stock. The Savage 10BA is okay too, heavy as all get out (13.6 lbs) without optics/bipod (off the top of my head). Also, it only takes proprietary Savage mags at 100 a pop. Save yourself a bunch of headaches and get a cheaper model and do your own accessories, would likely be much cheaper...and with the right bottom metal, you could do AI or Alpha mags for much cheaper (and better quality). Just my $.02. as I was looking at the exact same spread you were. |

It takes me about 10 minutes to swap calibers on my Savages. The wrench to do it costs $30,
You set the headspace then use the barrel nut to lock it in. With a Remington you have to get the shoulder machined or the chamber reamed to set the headspace. So it requires a trip to a shop to do. Even before I started doing it myself most smiths only charged $30-$50 to do a barrel swap on a Savage. Same smiths generally charged $200-$300 or even more to do the same to Remingtons. Dolomite |

No experience with the CZ 750, but a friend has a 527 in .223 (I believe that is the model), great rifle, even better trigger.
Now, that Remington...even for 1250 I don't like it. Remember, it has the Remington VTR barrel, which is triangular. I cannot speak to it's raccuracy one way or the other, but I have not read great reviews about it, and to me, it looks ridiculous. To be honest, and many folks will tell you this...there's a few options, are you concerned about barrel twist rates for your caliber? There's a gentleman on this board, I believe his handle is LoneWolf, who has actual real-world experience with this stuff (I am a couch commando who just enjoys the sport ;) Anyhow, he has a series on youtube regarding a "budget precision rifle build". Watch it. He gives pearls of wisdom I wished I had known when I got into this thing. ETA: he has a website/company called 8541 Tactical, check it out. I wished I would have, it would have saved me a ton of money and pains in my ass! Essentially, he suggests folks getting into this buy a Remington SPS Tactical AAC-SD. If you don't want the threaded barrel and muzzle brake, you can just get the SPS Tactical and build up from there (these start at about 500, the AAC-SD is at about 650-700). If you like that stock on the Target Tactical, you can then buy it separate at Stockys (it is a B&C Medalist Tactical A%, I believe) and you'll be saving yourself about 350.00. What I did (because I liked that Savage 10BA), was purchased a Savage 10fcp-k, took the barreled action and screwed it into an XLR Evolution chassis (google it, badass stuff right there), and viola, done! Exact same barreled action as the 10BA without that damn beastly Savage stock (and about 100.00 less, and it takes the AICS magazines)! |

Also, it only takes proprietary Savage mags at 100 a pop. This isn't correct. It uses standard AI magazines. you, sir, are damn right. The one and only time I have been wrong! Relish it! I bet you said the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle took proprietary mags too.
