I have some money to spend and am looking to get an inexpensive rifle that shoots inexpensive ammo (7.62x39 or 5.45x39).  CenterfireSystems has a Bulgarian AK74 with 4 mags for $400.  It seems like a good deal.  On the 7.62 front, I've looked at WASRs and SKSs but can't seem to find many dealers with SKSs online.  Throw me some suggestions.

Thanks

Do you have a .22lr rifle?

Or maybe a lever gun in 38/357.

The inexpensive 7.62x39 ammo, especially the brass cased Yugo surplus, makes it a good time to own a weapon in that caliber.

The new 581 series Ruger Mini-Thirty would fit your budget, albeit at the top of your range.  They are getting pretty good reviews on the interwebz, and seem to be just fine with berdan primed surplus.  Review and another.  I have one, but have only put 200 rounds of berdan primed ammo through it so far.

It has good ergonomics and is easily scoped.  The downside is the cost of magazines is two to three times higher than an AK.  Accuracy is good and the GI-style aperature sights are better than the tangent sights on an AK or SKS.

A Yugo SKS to go with all that Yugo surplus would be another good option.

Any ideas on where to buy a Yugo SKS?

do anything else but DON'T do the Bulgy 74.  A 10/22 with a decent scope is tons of fun and cheap to shoot!  Also, if you don't have a bolt gun, a .22LR from Savage (shameless plug) is a great trainer!

What's the issue with the Bulgy 74s?

The issue with the Bulgy 74's is the lack of QC from CAI.  I bought one a year and a half ago...took it to the range and at 50 yards, couldn't hit paper.  I ended having to crank the FS all the way to the right until it could go no further.  Even with that, the damn thing was still an 1.5 to the left of center. It just irritated beyond belief and I swore revenge on those rifles ever since!
