| I need a spotting scope to sight in my rifles. As of right now the longest distance will be 200 yards. What are my options? |
|
Any el-cheapo spotting scope from Cabela's or the like will work fine for 200 yard target work . I wouldn't spend over $60 for something like that.
Of course the difference in clarity and low-light capabilities of a $4,000 spotting scope vs. a Chinese made $50.00 one is pretty clear. But they both will work just fine.. |

Which ones are made here in the US?
Sorry, couldn't resist. As one whom is a self described spotting scope junkie, please allow me to strongly urge you to get something of quality. Shop Optics Planet's web site for suggestions. I really like my Nikon 16x48x60 that I got in the $350~ range. |
| If all you're going to do is punch paper at the local range, then the Harbor Freight scope will probably be ok. If you don't mind spending a little more money, Konus makes a spoting scope that's much better than it's price point. This scope has glass as good as my Nikon, about 1\3 of the price. |

don't get a fixed power scope like I did....and get one with a 45 degree eyepiece if you can. I have a straight eyepiece on my el-cheapo, and while it's not a deal breaker, it'd be nicer and easier to use if it had a 45. I got a cheap straight eyepiece fixed magnification NC Star scope from CDNN or COPES a while back. It works for 30 cal holes but it's hard to see .22 sized holes at 100M

+ 1 for konus.
