Took out the family's Luger that probably hasn't been fired in 40 years. Runs like a top, but the magazine doesn't lock the toggle back on empty. I wager due to a slightly compressed magazine spring from having empty mag for decades. But heres my real question:
The gun ejects about 10-15 feet high, almost straight up. The shells land about 3 feet to my left and about 3 feet behind me. I am a right-handed shooter. It's a 1939 Mauser 9mm. Is this ejection normal for a Luger? Thanks friends. |

Quoted: That's just the way mine does it, straight up and slightly to the right. Mine doesn't hold the toggle back either and it has a weird problem, sometimes the sideplate falls off while shooting. Anybody diagnose that? the previously mentioned luger that I shot had the same problem with the side plate. He said it was worn out and bought a new surplus one and kept the old one laying around. Seemed to have fixed the problem. Of course, this was 8 years ago and he's out of the CG now and I haven't seen him since. |
| The ejection sounds pretty normal for a P-08. The failure to lock the toggle back on empty could be caused by a number of things. Could be your magazine.....try another mag. Some magazines just won't work well in pistols not mated to them. Hold-open device may be missing....I had one that was. If the hold-open spring is broken or cracked, the hold-open will not work. |

The Lugers are picky about ammo power as far as locking open.
I've noticed that Rem/UMC ain't that good making a P08 run...Winchester white box will run better...have a better chance of the pistol locking open when empty. Clean up and lube the magazines..may help the function. |
