Nice! I'll be down in Sierra Vista next month and will be there until December. Any tips other than go armed when exploring and checking out the NF and other areas? I never go anywhere even here in Colorado without a sidearm and long rifle with at least 120rnds of good ammo.

So common sense shit...good to hear. I'm excited to get down there and check out the area. I'll be there for a minimum of 6 months and possibly up to 3 years. CMS |

I must have one for effective Jihad and Halal1!!! Yup cms, common sense stuff. We have so many people come out here and dehydrate it's not funny. Many of them die on short hikes on urban trails, let alone out in BFE. desertmoon, the rack is one of these. I have the bottom "cup" bolted to the trans tunnel and the "arm" bolted to where the grab bar was. I had to spread the arm's fingers out to fit the AR handguard but works well, no need to close the latch. |

What sling is that? |

Lone Stars!!! I bet that's one light piece!!!!! Looks smooooth!!!!! Not as light as you might think. Right at 8lb loaded. I do like the Lone Stars, much better diameter than A2. I bought a "everything but the receiver SP1" from the EE a couple years ago. The triangle fore end is too flimsy, even though I like them, and I did not want to chance breaking it . I had the Lone Stars sitting in a box on the shelf and a STAG receiver complete with LPK. Voila, instant truck gun. Total cost, $575. |

I would like something along those lines for my rifle but I would prefer some way to add a lock to it.... ETA: Nice Bat'leth...... |

Man, a lot of you guys will be spending a LOT of time on the side of the road explaining if the police ever search your trunk/truck! I guess it depends on the state and the cop though... Move to a non-communist state and you won't have to worry about it. No explaining necessary. Most free states only have laws stating that you cannot have the magazine in the rifle...and that's becuase of Game Law in most instances and has to do with poaching. CMS |

There would never be a reason for them to search my vehicle. |

I dont see why I would ever have the police searching my vehicle Hell, I'm in MA and I don't worry about having the police search my vehicle. There would never be a reason for them to search my vehicle. Well, I got taken out of a former car at gunpoint one morning on my way to work. Two dogs and cops searched my whole car before they realized they had the wrong car. There was some robbery and apparently I matched the description. Nobody had a search warrant or gave a shit about what I was telling them... I had one Sig P220 under the front seat with an extra mag which they missed. I thought that part was funny. Careful in Mass my friend, that f'ing state is absolutely insane. Mass makes CT look like a free state! I'm just sayin' that even in a free state, if it's 2AM and you've got 3 loaded semi-auto "assault style" rifles with three or four ammo cans filled to the brim, you're gonna have issues. |
I guess I'm fucked. I don't leave anything valuable in my vehicle that I would mind losing (and certainly don't like the idea of arming a criminal). My sister recently had about $1500-$2000 worth of shit stolen out of her vehicle while she was at work recently. This is my face when I found out what she'd left in her car. ![]() |

I don't leave any firearm in my vehicle unattended, but I'm just saying that I'm not worried about having my vehicle searched even when I do have it loaded up. If I had my vehicle searched for some reason while I was on my way to our annual 3-day shooting/camping trip, they would have called out the SWAT Team. |

Here's mine:
We'll start with the basics: Spike's Blem lower C7 Upper from the EE Sabre Defense 14.5" midlength (government profile) with perm attached Vortex RRA two stage trigger (all my rifles have these) Various magpul furniture Calvary Arms C1 Stock (replaced A2 Butt pad) PRI Gas buster CH All my 556 guns have Vortex f/s so that I can mount my Gemtech '09Halo Another item all my AR's have is a Magpul BAD lever. Some folks like em some folk hate them. I happen to like them and find that they speed up my manipulation skills. Incase I have to use the rifle in low light, I have a Surefire 200 lumen 6PX mounted with a 1" Weaver ring and MI FSB mount. Be sure to get the aluminum model, I found out the hard way that plastic one is just slightly smaller and will slide in the mount. The light is easy to use with my thumb against the rear cap while using the sorta 3 gun/Magpul aggressive stance. This has come pretty natural to me after being introduced to it from the ATTC vids. I also added Trijicon night sights incase I needed to be a bit more covert with my sighting. I also replaced with the rear sight to the Trijicon (sorry no pic). These are excellent sights IMHO. For ease of cleaning and maint and because I had one laying I around. I installed a chrome bolt carrier (I admit this is overkill) On the other side of the rifle you can see I installed a single point sling, I have the sling folded up under the mag pouch straps so that it's out of the way while in storage, but easy to deploy if need be. Speaking of the mag pouch. It's a Blackhawk model. I purchased it thinking it would hold a 30 round mag. Turns out, only 20 will fit comfortably. Running the gun though a few drills has conditioned me to like having the "bullets up" for easier reloading and hand orientation. As for ammo, I have the 20 round mag loaded with 60gr TAP and the 30 with M885 green tip. At the risk of starting an argument. I'll just say, this is what works for me. In an effort to utilze the space given to me, I have the MOE grip filled with two additional CR123 batteries. The bulb in the light is an LED which is garenteed for life. I'm hoping Surefire, is good for it. On the topic of "space," I chose to have a A1 style stock, 1 because it's roughly the length I pull my CTR stocks to and 2 I can carry more stuff along with me to make the rifle more self sustaining. In this pic you see a GI cleaning kit, with some ATF (red bottle), a pair of ear plugs, a sight adjustment tool (so I don't lose the damn thing )and not pictured, a CRKT "dogfish knife. http://www.crkt.com/Dogfish
Lastly, my truck/survival gun has YHM extended take down pins. I was orginally worried that these pins would be obtrusive a gimic, however, they are just right size for me and definately speed up assembling and taking down the rifle for storarge and portability. I have to say this probably one of my favorite AR's and I have built and owned a lot of AR's |

The top edge is filed to a chisel point and slips under the trim. The bottom is bent to a "L" shape and bolts on top of the seat belt bracket. The hooks are held with pop rivets and covered with foam tape. I never bothered adding any locking setup. You could run a cable though the receiver and around the seat leg.![]() |

Also, 20ga? easier if the wifey needs to shoot it. still plenty powerful - if you can't do it with a 20g, a 12g aint gonna be a lot of help (excluding goose hunting). ammo is still plentiful. no issues getting buckshot, birdshot slugs. nothing wrong with 20g. |

Shotguns are great beaters. But, how do you get that stock back on in any sort of urgency? Also, 20ga? .410. This isn't kill all the zombies. It's an emergency weapon for the types of problems one might incur while out Jeepin. As to the stock, I extended the stock bolt and put sort of a butterfly end on it. The bolt extends to just about the end of the buttstock when tightened. The butt cap is held on by industrial strength velcro. It's proved very capable on all sorts of walking, crawling, slithering and flying small critters. I'm waiting for a chance at a yote to see how the slugs perform. But I think they will do well. |
