Can I remove the barrel mounted sight/bayonet lug? I bought an Accu-Strut and stupidly didn't factor in that this might get in the way. Looking at it, they appear to be fixed in place?

Thanks in advance.

There is a roll pin holding it on the barrel.
Remove that pin and the sight should move forward (might need a light tap o move it)

I did try this and lightly tapped the rear of the sight with a hammer, but I feared potential damage. The rifle is of 2003 manufacture and has a slightly thicker barrel than earlier GBs.

Well, the sight went on the barrel from the front. It has to move forward to come off.
Use a brass hammer. it will marr the surface but wont dent it.

Get on the phone to the Accu-strut people, they'll probably be willing to swap-out the long one for a short model that will fit your GB.  They're a small company that is very interested in customer satisfaction.

Well, it seems the later series GB is not designed to have the sight removed. I hope it's none the worse for the attempt; it only managed a few millimetres before stopping.

I doubt they would swap it out. I am in the U.K which they won't export to.
It looks a fair bet to try and exchange it for a standard Ranch rifle, although it'll cost.

Don't ditch the GB just because the Accu-guys won't ship to you.  Check out perfectunion.com and search for the Home Depot version of the upgrade.

I was going to get an accustrut, but I couldn't find one, plus I balked at paying $120 for a metal stick, so I made one.

The clamps are hose seperators from Summit Racing (approx. $15 each, + shipping), and the strut itself is a piece of discarded steel tubing. After notching the tubing to fit onto the gas block, I fit it to the gas block with a clamp in place, and tack-welded the tubing in place. The rest was filed in with JB Weld, and the bolt was attached to the end of the tubing to resemble the gas plug of an M14. I roughened the surfaces of the clamp and coated it with JB Weld so that it would hold the bake-on finish I applied to the entire rifle.

The finished product:

As far as how it's affected accuracy...eh, I can generally hit soda cans at 100yds with it pretty much any time I want.

I know the front sights will come off. Done it a few times now.

Try letting some PB blaster or Kroil soak under it. SRC's blueing is good at soaking up moisture.
Heating it with a torch (keep it brief and light) might do it.

Whatever you do DONT destroy the sight/bayo lug. They dont make that peice anymore.

Your accu-thingy is a gimmick.  You'll have the same result by attaching an M16 bayonet to the bayonet lug that's already there and it'll look like it belongs on an evil rifle.
