| i can find the ruger M77 with a hogue over mold stock for 400$ is this a good deal and how does this rifle compare to the Remington 700 and the savage 10 as far as out of the box accuracy and quality. |

Typically the Savage will have a better barrel than the other two. The Remington will have a better trigger, unless the Savage has the accu-trigger.
Ruger makes fine weapons. The M-77 is a control-round feed, the Remington is push-feed. I'm not saying one is better than the other, it's strictly personal preference. If I wanted the best "out of the box" accuracy, I'd get a Savage with an accu-trigger. If I wanted a rifle to modify for the future, I'd get a Remington 700 with the X-mark trigger. If I wanted a rifle that I could drop out of my stand, drag down a dirt road, drop in a mud puddle and still expect it function without a visit to the gunsmith, I'd get a Ruger M-77 Stainless. |

All sound advice in my opinion.
I had a Savage model 10 w/ accu-trigger in 308 that was 2-3 moa at 200 yards with a slight crossbreeze using a fixed 10x supersniper scope and an aftermarket over-sized bell &carlson stock. Probably the BEST combination for the money. I think I had well under $900 in the total investment. I've also owned a Ruger mdl 77 that was extremely reliable hunting white tailed deer in Pennsylvania. I've never owned a model 700 but from my understanding they are the most accessorized rifle out there with different barrels, triggers and stocks. |
