Anybody have any experience with this ammo? They sell it at Academy sports stores, and for a lot cheaper than other brands.

It's cheap.

It is not as accurate as better, more expensive ammo.

But it shoots just fine and is fine for plinking.

Yeah that's about all I shoot anymore these days. It's cheap ammo and it works fine for plinking, never had any issues with it.

I bought a ton of it while visiting in Bama about 2 years ago, never had a single issue with it.

Bought some a week ago to use to testfire and sight in a Mossberg $300 package rifle for a co-worker. Stock screws had worked loose. Disassembled, cleaned, reassembled action into the stock. Torqued it properly, and verified free float of the barrel. Shot 1.75" - 2.5" groups @ 100yds. from sandbags. Ammo was clean, shot every time I pulled the trigger. I would use it in a pinch if nothing else was availible. Gave it back to him so he could fine tune it to his liking. Not bad for just grabbing a box of cheap off the rack for function testing. Also tells me that except for the creepy, coarse trigger, this was a minute of beer can gun ootb. With a little trigger attention, and a little load development, I think I could atleast get 1"-1.5" groups for 100yds. Not great, but still a hell of a bargain for $300 for rifle and scope package. 44.

The steel cased stuff is brown bear and the brass is PPU so yes it's decent stuff.

However watch out for stuck cases if you use the steel cased in your AR, I've had a few issues with that.

Ghetto speaks the truth about steel being Brown Bear and brass case being PPU.

I haven't had any problems with the steel case. I have used the brass cased 30-30, 308 and 30-06 for zeroing new rifles or rifles Im changing scopes on. I use the cheap stuff to get where I want then use my preferred ammo for final zero. I will say Ive found it to be surprisingly accurate.

I bought like 600-700 rounds of the steel cased last year when it was like 3 or 4 bucks or some shit per box.
Shot it all through my AR and never had a single problem, I'd definitely buy it again.

Yup. Same russian stuff, just rebranded for them. Shoots fine. Dirty, but goes bang. Buy if cheap.

To be totally correct the Steel cased stuff is "Barnaul" ammunition...the Russian plant where it's made.    Brown Bear is just the name another importer gives it.   Just like Academy calls it "Monarch" red box/steel case

I've used Monarch brass cased 9mm and it's always performed flawlessly.
