| Who makes the best or most desireable Uzi? Would like to find one in 3 calibers. |
|
I have to say Vector. Kokalis spoke about what Vector did to improve the UZI receiver. All that I have owned have been flawless. Vector improved the original by using a carb heat treat on the receiver...making it much tougher than the original IMI receiver. Old IMI receivers tend to get a groove from the bolt as time goes on...Vectors eliminate this. Vector single handed brought the UZI back from the dead. |

"new" ones are typicaly made on old IMI or other receivers. Finding one in three calibers is going to be expensive and difficult. I would go over to uzitalk.com and ask over there.
Another option is to build. nodakspud is offering new receivers right now and there are plenty of parts kits available. Caliber conversion kits however are real expensive. |

IMI,
Vector has had some many problems over the years (business problems) that I am always a little nervious about how that percolated down to the manufacturing of all the different guns they made throughout the years. I went with a IMI B and am very happy. You will spend a little more on an IMI, but the value will probably hold up better too. I must say that the Century UZI my friend just purchased has blased through 2000 rounds without an issue and is about 300 bucks cheaper than what you will find an IMI for, and generally all UZIs are tanks so you might not be able to go wrong anyway. Just stay away from underpowered 9mm (Rem. PRC sucks and wont always cycle the heavy Uzi bolt, no matter which uzi you get) |

I've had three Vectors and one IMI Uzi Model B.
The IMI was far and away the best of the bunch. The second best was the Vector Uzi built on an IMI receiver. The two Vectors built using Group Industries receivers were 'okay' by comparison. I would probably skip the Vector/Group Industries and just get an IMI, personally. Though it is quite likely that you will find another manufacturer will work just fine for you. I would stay away from the Norinco Uzi (even though I love their AKs), unless it was SUPER cheap >$600. Just my opinion. ~Icarus |
