| i recently came across a deal on a gewehr 98. after alot of cleaning (no refinishing) and inspection it looks to be amatching numbers rifle dated 1915. like i said all matching number about 85% of the blue left on the barrel reciver still in the white stock is in fair condition also with matching numbers the only thing missing is the cleaning rod. i was looking at places like gunbroker.com and so on it looks to me that a rifle in this condition is in the neighborhood 0f $1000.00 in value i was wondering if any one has any more info pertaining to the value..thanks |

I don't know, a thousand seems awfully high. I would think less than half that, but someone that knows will come along quickly. You are thinking of WWII K98k Russian captures. Those run around $350 What the OP apears to have is a WWI issue Gew 98. From what I have seen, $1000 seems about right fro a correct, all matching WWI Gew 98. And OP, you know the rules. We want pics! |

Really depends on condition and rarity of manufacturer. $1000 is on the high side unless it is something special.
More reasonable price for a matching # GEW98 in good condition would be $500-700. Try Springfield Sporters for a cleaning rod, beware that some of the main surplus outfits like Numrich/Northridge etc sell repro rods.... |
