I have a 1911 that was manufactured between 1918 and 1919.  The frame is in excellent condition and has a slide/barrel that were added in the mid 70's.  My issue is with the original slide.  It is very rusty and I want to clean it up in order to have the entire pistol in original and working order.  What is the best technique for cleaning it up?  WD-40 and a wire brush?  Or is there a better method?

Thanks
