It appears that these Ruger Factory 20 round Mags are not working well at this time. Ruger shipped them to him and all three would not feed all the cartridges in the mag. I'll post his words when I can find the spot I read them at.
Here is what he posted at Perfect Union; Dec 24 2009 Hi Sturm Ruger! Please find enclosed the 4 Mini-30 20-round magazines I bought recently, and a copy of your invoice. I am returning the mags for repair or replacement. I spoke to your Chelsea about the problem on the phone, and she said she entered it into the computer. But here is the problem defined again: I loaded 20 rounds into each mag, and cycled the action by hand. All fed the first 15 rounds OK. But all jammed on one of the last 5 rounds to feed out of the magazine. ● One mag jammed on the 5th to last round coming out. ● Two mags jammmed on the 3rd to last round coming out. ● One mag jammed on the 2nd to last round coming out. They all jammed the same way - by the round being fed out too low and hitting the front of the mag. And I got the same result by actually firing some rounds. And I got the same result every time I repeated the hand cycling. Since all 4 mags are bad, it looks like a whole batch was bad. So please don't just replace these mags with more from the same batch - whatever you do, make sure the ones you send back work. People have been waiting a long time for the Mini-30 20-rounders, and the news is not good so far, on the internet messageboards. Thanks for fixing this problem. Pete ......" I was hoping to purchase some 20 round mags for my 30 as well, but now I think I'll wait awhile. |

CDNN is advertising factory 20 rounders for the Mini 30.
tI've had a Mini 30 since they first came out and have killed a number of deer with it. Frankly, the 7.62x39 is not very good on large whitetails so I stopped hunting with it. I do however like my 30 more than any of my AKs. With factory 20 round mags available I just might just have use for it again. |
