Ok, now that the AR platform has evolved to what we have now & Remington has blessed us with the 6.8 chambering so we have brass to work with so that the old 30 Herrett can now be used in ARs, a whole new can of worms is out there just waiting for us.
Can anyone think of a good reason why I can't dust off my old .357 Herrett dies & get a barrel & just go to town? My old 14" Contender in .357H was a shooter and my eyes kind of glaze over when I think of what it could do in a 20" rifle. I sorta think it would be a brush poppin'/hog killin' machine. Any thoughts on the concept? MLG |

So what exactly is a .357H Rimless? Is it simply a 6.8 run through a .357H die? If so, there would already be AR15 mags and bolts available, and as you note all that would be left to add would be an appropriate barrel.
If that's the case, it sounds like an excellent candidate for use with heavy bullets and a silencer. Kind of like the .300 Whisper, but heavier. Then again, it looks like the heaviest .358" bullet that Sierra currently lists is a 225 gr. bullet. With the .300 Whisper, you can get a 240 gr. SMK that gives you a higher BC and more energy. There may be other bullet makers that offer a heavier bullet in that caliber. Rifling twist would be something else to consider if going heavy. Also, you would have to check to see what the OAL would be with a bullet that heavy, and make sure it's not going to be too long. |
