Ammo companies have more likely shifted production to 9mm and are not making as much .380. Big government contracts are a great way for the companies to make a lot of money.

.380 has always been a little hard to get, supply and demand, small demand = small supply.

Ruger releases the LCP in .380 and every Fudd, Dick and Fudd buys one.

Then every Fudd, Dick and Idiot votes The ONE in as POTUS.

Now everybody wants ammo or components, no .380.

Why?

Now .380 is in high demand, everything's in super high demand.

Simple supply and demand.  Everybody demands a supply of ammo.

I'm not sure that military is buying a lot of .380.  I think that most amo manufacturers are just making the more popular verieties and the less popular .380 is getting left out of the production schedules.  .380 is not as popular as many other sizes and in times like this when you can't make production/ demand, you make what you know you can sell the most of.  (9mm, 40cal ,45cal, ect.)  That is why .380 is always more $$$ than 9mm even though it is less materials and cost to produce.there are just fewer consumers using it than some other sizes.

given that .380 is just a 9mm with a shorter case and lighter projo, it's no surprise that ammo companies are putting production on the back burner.
