Okay I'll play, here's mine.

series 99C Model A .308 Win.

Busnell 2.5 German post reticle

I bought it in 1993 the day that the Brady bil went into effect.

It's accounted for a good number of black tail deer harvested in Alaska.

Those old 99's are beautiful guns.

I have a question for you guys.  If the rifle is cocked, empty and on safe, will the hammer fall when you pull the trigger?

This rifle is one reason I HATE gun collectors. I am a shooter and user of firearms. When I was a kid I wanted one of these in .308 but never got one. I still want one but will never be able to justify the cost now that collectors have started inflating the price.

Your post made me look at what prices are today. Here's a .308 with scope that isn't $75 dollars more than what I paid 16 years ago.

It's older than mine, and probably worth more.

just gotta keep your eyes peeled and cross your fingers on finding one,

I bought my 99 e approx 14 years ago for $125 otd at a local pawn shop, they had a 284win tag on it, but it turned out to be a 308win, the case hardening on the receiver is a bit light, and the stocks had been refinished, but all in all it was in pretty damn good shape, the bore was bright and rifling sharp, shoots just fine, the trigger is light and crisp, breaks right at 3lbs..

I know what you are saying. I am not so sure that it is the pure collectors as much as the guy who wants one because it is just like the rifle uncle harry had.

At any rate they are around if you keep your eyes open. I bought one 4 months back for 350. somebody had added several coats of nasty finish on the stock but the metal was all good . I re did the stock , added a rubber recoil pad because I am a weenie , swapped out the redfield that came on it for a 4X lyman all american that I had laying around and am really pleased with what I now have .

I have a 1951 .308 with a weaver 3x scope that I bought for $425. It's a VERY nice gun. and pretty much all original as much as I can tell.

SOME, more rare varieties go for $650 + all the way to $3500 I've seen, but a regular .308 or .300 Savage should be doable under $500. I saw several at the last gun show...

PS- My great grandfather used a 99 almost down to the wire of what I have to take a big horn sheep that is hanging from my wall. He missed my parents wedding to go on this sheep hunting trip. When he died, my family got the sheep head, my dad's cousin got the .308, so I had a 'hole' to fill.

Breaks my heart to look at these, I had a 99 in .358 Win that was stolen back in the early 80's.
Paid $250.00 for it at one of the local shows.

My Dad always wanted  a Savage 99 in .300 Savage, so when I found this I bought it.

To bad he pasted away two years before I found it.

I don't have a pic handy but mine looks just like this in .300 Savage. Dad bought it new after he came home from WWII along with his Ithaca 37 16 gauge. They became mine 1 month before he passed away. He said you better take my guns home and clean them.

ETA: Got  pic now

I'll try to get a pic later but my Dad bought a 99e in .308, I'm not sure when. He hunted for quite a few years before he sold it for $ (I think when I was born, I'm 38 now). He always talked about how he like that rifle and how he wished he hadn't sold it.

A couple of years ago, before my Dad passed away the guy who bought it from him found him and asked if he'd like it back, Dad jumped on it! The icing on the cake was when he sold it back for what he paid for it!

I have the rifle now but have never shot it. I keep looking at it in the rack when I go to the range and one of these days It WILL go with me.

Tag for the pics and a placeholder until I can get home and load some pics of mine. I've got two of them...a 1950 EG in .300 Savage that's probably an honest 95% and a really nice 99A in .250-3000 with a 2x7 Burris on top. I love my 99's and have a couple more on my wish list.

place holder for pics...when i finally get around to taking them.   mine is a 1958 economy model in .300 sav.  i love it, but hate the case stretch in the .300sav, as i don't buy commercial ammo any more. I am thinking about re-building it in 8mm IHMSA caliber  and a 17" barrel in a manlicher style stock.

Wow, I have working guns, and a couple collectables too. Collectors dont inflate prices, the market dictates. plain ol' fact, guns are going up. All guns. Money dont buy what it used to. If you want a 99 the longer you wait the more your gonna pay. It is only gonna get worse. When old Winchesters got up in price, folks started buying Marlins, now old Marlins are through the roof, the old Savages will be the next to make that big price jump for nice examples.

I will try to get a better picture.  It is chambered in 303 Savage.  I reload for it and took my first deer with it this past season.
