Here's some pics of the new builds.

Daewoo Dr-200 with 14.5" barrel with Smith Vortex flash hider permanently attached.  Modified FAL railed handguards to work with existing handguard lug on the gas tube.  KAC vertical forward grip.  Ace pistol grip and older Ace stock with "the shoulder thing that goes up"

The Burris Fastfire cowitnesses almost perfectly with the iron sights.

Budget build.

Daewoo Dr-200 with 14.5" barrel with Phantom flash hider permanently attached.  STG-58 handguards and bottom rail, lug had to be welded for the STG58 handguards.  KAC vertical forward grip.  Stormwerkz low profile mount, Burris Fastfire has almost perfect cowitness.    Chopped factory thumbhole stock to make the pistol grip and sprayed it with rubber undercoating.  The AR stock adapter is a modified AK stock adapter.

If you could make your pictures a little bigger we might could see the details...

But very nice.

Does shortening the bbl affect cycling at all, or di it have to be otherwise modified to address that?  I only ask because I've been thinking of shortening my DR-200 bbl off an on for a while...

I have some cycling problems but by opening the gas setting to L, that resolved any issues.  Seems like many woo owners who get the barrel shortened have to open it up for reliability.  I have heard some AR barrels going from 20->16 have to have it opened up too a little.

the rail started out life as a UTG fal rail, i figured since i would have to do some major modifications, worst case is i have an $80 paperweight.

you have to take a little material off the rear where it locks into the shoulder of the receiver.  that way the rail will sit flush with the receiver.

then you have to make the lip thinner so it can go between the barrel and the receiver.  i did that with a dremel and cutting disc just thinning it out over and over again.

you also have to dremel out some of the corners inside the rail to get it to fit around the taper of the barrel.  you will know when you test fit it and it won't lock all the way back.

you then measure where the stock screw goes thru and mill a hole and then tap it.

the top cover doesn't mount flush due to the gas tube so i had to pad it a little with some extra gasket material i had.

hope that helps you out.  if i take it apart again, i'll get some pics.

btw.  anyone know what the purpose of that wire stock that goes up is for?  it feels unnecessary, i get a good should seat without it.  with it, i feel like it won't slip down but that's never been an issue.

this is a real early ace stock and i see they don't do that anymore.

Some machine guns have that wire loop that folds up like that. I beleive it's just to take weight off your shoulder. I have to admit, I kind of like them.

Really nice rifles you've got there.

You had me with you.....until you put the M4 buttstock on it!!!

Why does everyone want to put an M4 stock their weapons? It's not that great of a stock and it looks kinda silly on the AR.. and it looks really bad on this and UMPs, G36s.........the list goes on and on. This is my opinion and I don't mean to detract from your otherwise very well done rifle!!

You put a barrel shroud on your buttstock ? Just joking. Feinstein called a barrel shroud the "shoulder thing that goes up". Damn nice weapon, Bro.

That is a very nice Daewoo.  A thread a while back asked what rifle would you like to see produced.  I said the Daewoo cause it is a platform that is just begging for modernization.  I wish a manufacturor over hear would produce a modern Daewoo, they would make a killing.

haha, it was the budget build.  trust me, the stock is a lot better than the factory thumbhole one.  by modding a $15 ak adapter and using a car stock i already had, it made for a cheap upgrade and there's not many of those for the daewoo.

the daewoo lower is almost like an ar15 one, fire control group is swappable but the receiver is a little wider.  it also has a pivot pin.  only the rear is a little different with the spring and capture system to keep the upper and lower together.  it wouldn't be difficult for someone to recreate the daewoo upper using a standard ar15 upper lugs.  the only thing would be the gas piston would have to be designed around it.  with everyone trying to retrofit the gas piston to the ar platform, why not tweak it a little and make it like a system that was designed to be gas piston operated?

I like the first one. The second is a little ghetto for me but not too bad. I might have to look into adding a railed forend on my K2.

See, I think I must be the only one who doesn't mind the OEM t-hole stock on the DR-200.
I've always found it very comfortable, personally, and I like the distictive look  –– I think it sets the Daewoo apart IMO.

I feel the same way about my Arsenal SLR95MB's t-hole stock, and am similarly alone in that.

But I also have plenty of other AR and AK variants, collapsibles and folders, etc. so I just don't have the desire to mod the few that stand out to me (not to say yours don't look very nice, they do).

Just me, I guess.

got my custom 90 degree safety installed.  made the pics smaller.  it started life as a RRA Star Safety selector.  Not sure exactly what the process was but a smith tweaked it and reparked it and it looks like it was made for the woo.
