So a friend of mine has one of the Century G3s (believe it's the C91?) that he wants to get rid of, and he's giving me first crack at it for the low low price of $300.  I've shot it a few times and been around when he's shot it, and it's seemed reliable, but I know they have a reputation for being hit-or-miss.  Worth the $300, or is it money better put towards a PTR-91?  Also, for those more experienced with these animals than I, anything in particular to look for as far as potential problems with these?  Thanks!

+1. And if you find yourself wishing that you'd gotten a PTR91 instead,
you can probably get $4-500+/- trade-in value out of the Century to put
toward the PTR rifle. Good luck.

I got one some years ago around the same price.

Money well spent.

And while the ammo isnt cheap, you can still get mags easily enough at a great price!

Alright, well I picked up said firearm yesterday and, following picking up a manual at the gun show, tore the thing down.  Bolt gap seems good, and the bolt isn't ground.  The bore is kinda on the rough side, although I've read a few people have these with rough-looking bores that still shoot well (and I figure for $300, I can get the thing rebarreled and still be at a livable price if it comes down to it).  Tinkered with two of the magazines that my friend could never get to seat properly (aren't files amazing??) and got them working.  It was absolutely filthy, almost to the point of making me wish I had been cleaning cosmoline off of something instead, but it cleaned up pretty good –– gonna hose it down with some gun scrubber today and see if I can get it the rest of the way.  So far, I'm pretty happy with it... so thanks for talking me into it

Six months ago, I wouldn't have bought one for $200. No joke.

However, in today's climate, even if it's a POS (which it most likely will be), you can still sell it for more than $300 even while telling the guy it's a POS. If it works, great! If it doesn't, sell it and make a few bucks.

If it was that filthy, I probably don't have to say it, but make sure to pay extra attention to the chamber flutes with a brush.

Have fun with it!

Yeah, the panic has been good for guns like this.  I just sold an aluminum receiver FA91 when I realized I could finally get my money back out of it.  Wasn't anything wrong with it, I just like higher quality guns now that I know better.
