Hi Folks !
I`m new to this board , and the reason I wanted to start this post is for anyone with Encom MP-45 questions.I get a lot of E-mail sent to me asking questions about parts , schematics and such.I have all the original literature scanned and I can either E-mail it , or , if a moderator will give me a clue how , I`m willing to post it here.I have / had a pistol that I have converted into a carbine.I live in a state that doesnt allow SBR`s , so I have a barrel extension welded on , I made a trunion for an underfolding stock , and made a scope mount.I still have to make the rear cover for the trunnion and I`m fitting it with a SIG PE-57 bayonet. I`d say that I`m an advanced builder , I have built a STG 58 , a M4 carbine , and an AMD 63.I also have a small ring Mauser ( .308 ) in the works.

ah yes Encom. I had the 45 pistol back in the eighties. Heavy duty all steel and used GG mags, AR pistol grip. Mine was a decent piece and always went bang with ball ammo. They made them in 9mm also, and factory carbines. Side feed and bottom feed like the pistols.
There probably pretty hard to come by nowadays. I got a pretty good chunk of change for mine when I sold it during the ban. |

They have been out of business for years......unless they are keeping very secret. Mine weighed about 12 pounds too.
It would make a great boat anchor Here's a picture of the style one that I had |
| I agree with the trigger pull , its very heavy. The pistol wasnt very accurate so thats why I turned it into a carbine.I only paid $185 for the pistol brand new in the box! That was "back in the day".It will now pattern about a 2" circle at 25 yds.Hopefully I can work on it this weekend and I`ll try to figure out how to post a picture here. |

Here`s a picture of what I have done so far.

Ok , first thing that I did was take a barrel extension that I got years ago , and cut the welds so that I could line up the holes in the handguard and slide it together so that there`s no gap between them.It was still too short so I cut apart the fake silencer can and used 4" of tube from it to give it 16.5 ".I wanted to modify the barrel first so the I dont end up with a SBR , which Alabama doesn`t allow. After I got it lined upI welded it together with a Mig.
http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq133/EncomMP45/PICT0008.jpg The next thing that I did was use some graph paper to lay out the pattern on the barrel , tape it in place and use a SHARP centerpunch to imprint the pattern.I still have to drill it and I`ll try to get to that soon. http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq133/EncomMP45/PICT0007.jpg The trunnion was a little trickier.I had an underfolding stock from an AKM , so I took the receiver measurements from one of my AKMs and used 0.060 sheet metal.I welded 2 washers inside it to give it rigidity and this will wear better.I still have to make the cover for the trunnion , and I will weld this in place. http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq133/EncomMP45/PICT0002-1.jpg The scope mount is just some billet aluminum that I cut on the table saw , and used an old riser mount that I cut up also. You can get aluminum brazing rods at welding supply shops that do a really good job. http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq133/EncomMP45/PICT0009.jpg |
| The only time that I see parts available is to check Gunbroker.com.Every once and awhile a barrel will show up for sale. The last time I saw a barrel , they wanted $350.00 for it.I`d like to have another barrel myself , I have a friend at a machine shop , I might see if he`s willing to take it on.I made my scope mount and it wasn`t that hard to do.You can get aluminum plate from most machine shops,( mine was free ) and order aluminum rail from Brownells , Midway , ect.The plate can be cut with a table saw ( with a carbide blade). I got aluminum brazing rods from Tractor Supply ,cleaned both parts really well ,and brazed them together. |
