I have a DPMS Lite 16 and was wondering if a gunsmith could mill the chamber out a little? It's so tght(I've been told) that I'm afraid of jams during a time when I need it the most. So far I have only fired 50 rds of Wolf thru w\o a problem, but I understand the Russian stuff with varnish will jam a lot. Also, I'm reluctant to invest in reloading equip if the weapon will not digest the ammo unless its perfect.

Got rid of every DPMS I had.  Some guys have good luck, I didn't.  Accurate as all hell, but some loads wouldn't extract fired brass (not Wolf!) ... and I just couldn't rely on it.

DPMS ships a "don't shoot Wolf or PMC" ammo in their guns.  That, in and of itself, bothered me.

Good luck with it.  I apologize that I didn't answer your question...not sure if a gunsmith could do it, or if it'd be worth the cost.  Probably easier (and safer) to get a new upper.

You've shot 50 rounds thru it and now want to screw up the chamber because someone told you DPMS chambers are tight?

Run a couple thousand rounds through then come back and discuss.

DPMS barrels are fine as long as you don't shoot Wolf. Why would you ever shoot Wolf if your life were on the line... do you value your life that cheaply ? Oh, and +1000 for not screwing with your barrel unless you KNOW there is a problem. If you are that worried, sell your DPMS barrel on the EE and replace with a 5.56 chrome lined middy or rifle-length barrel.

You can always polish the hell outa it. I dont shoot wolf through mine, but every ammo Ive used (Hirt, Port, GA Arms Match) has worked 100%

not a good idea to polish the chamber,  the brass needs something to grip on or you could have pressure problems,  shoot good ammo.

You seriously need to put more rounds through the rifle before you take someone else's advice on modifications.  I have a couple of DPMS's and I don't have any issues.

In order to trust any weapon, you have to know it.  You can only achieve this by firing it often, knowing it's twerks, knowing it's feel.  There are so many different types of ARs out there that you can't just take someone's advice based on their experience.

Buy some good ammo, the same ammo that you intend on using in defense, and put a whole bunch of it down range.  Then come back with any issues and we can go from there.

have a smith headspace it for you to see what chamber it is. Its true DPMS put out barrels stamped 5.56 but a 223 chamber. Very dangerous but check before you cut.

Who said anything about putting their lives on the line with the rifle?  If you can't practice, then you're putting your life on the line.  And sadly enough, not all of us are retired multi-millionaires who can afford to shoot a thousand rounds of Lake City every week.  For the rest of us, it's damned important that a carbine be capable of running cheap plinking ammo so that it can actually be USED.  And if it's not capable of running crappy ammo under good circumstances, how am I going to be confident that it will shoot good ammo under bad conditions?

there should be a couple of AR smiths/builders with a Ned Christensen 5.56 reamer.
