I was thinking about buying a chamber insert for my Rem 700 in 30-06. I have seen tham in 308,7.62x39, .30, & .32acp. This seems like a nice cheap way to get some more use out of my rifle. Does any one have experiebce with them??? I did some research online, the only negative feed back I came up with concerned semi-auto. The insert would eject with the spent caseing and a new round would chamber causing overpressure. I dont think this would be an issue in a bolte action.

I've got a .22 / .223 insert I use in a Contender.  It's okay, but accuracy isn't as good as a dedicated .22 barrel.

With a .30-06 to .308, I think you would just have a spacer at the front of the chamber at the shoulder.  It may or may not come out when you try to eject the round.  With something that has a smaller diameter case than the .30-06, the adapter would extend to the back of the chamber (basically, it would be shaped like the -06 case, with another chamber cut inside of it.)  Unless it had no rim, the adapter would extract just like an empty case.

Im sure the insert would eject when i operate the bolt. But I wont have the same problem as a SemiAuto. I have to manuelly insert the next round so there is no chance of a 308 being chambered and fired causing damage to the receiver. Having the ability to shoot lower power (cheaper) ammo like the 32 acp for plinking is nice feature. Plus the ability to 308 or 30-06 in the same rifle is eleminates the need for 2 rifles during hunting season.

I have Ceiner also for my AR's depending on the ammo shoots about 1moa @100 yds, depending on wind and my shooting ability that day.

I plan on trying one with my Garand when I receive it. I am getting a schuster gas plug that would allow me to shoot comercial stuff & cut off semi auto function for this. I still have close to a couple hundred rounds of surplus 7.62 laying around and even if I have to single load, $35 for insert and Broke shell extractor gets me 200 more rounds down range practice.
