Make sure you know the shipper's rules, and have copies of them with you.  Because odds are that the counter-monkey won't know their own rules.

I recently shipped a gun FedEx.  It's one that I had sold and it was going to a dealer.  They insisted that they see a copy of an FFL before they would accept it for shipment.  Fortunately the dealer had sent me a hard copy.  I don't know if a printout of the FFL EZ-Check would have satisfied them if I didn't have a copy of the actual license.

Another time, I tried to ship a semi-auto AK to myself so I didn't have to take it on a plane with me.  UPS insisted on opening it (after I dropped it off and left), and then called me to come back because of a "problem".  I sent it through the post office, and they returned it as they "don't ship machine guns".  I finally just took the gun on the plane in my checked luggage and had no problems.

Although it is legal to ship a firearm to yourself all of the common carriers have rules that at least one party has to have an FFL. So it can be difficult to do...

handguns are nearly impossible.

people at gunbroker uses priority mail and take chances that the package will not be inspected.

You really don't want to send or receive a handgun.... all that trouble if they find out.

so,  for hand guns its SOL.

WHY is handguns so hard to ship.  it is sooo stupid.

I go to my long time dealer and have them mail it. It costs a wee more but no hassle.
