| I would buy a LMT MRP gas piston upper before owning a XCR.......fast swaps on the barrels, ability to go from gas piston to DI in minutes, ability to change and shoot different calibers out of one platform.....I would rather have the LMT in my safe than the XCR....just my opinion |

Once you get it let us know if you can get a few thousand rds through it without sending it back to the factory Is there something I should know before I get it? Yep, you should know there are plenty of XCR/Robinson trolls on this forum. Every gun has em, you just need to learn who they are Some things you should know: When buying an XCR, especially used. you want a gun that has been released recently because in 2006 Robinson added a firing pin buffer, and 2nd generation gas block which has 4 gas settings and is toolless Also, Erik Lund, Senior Instructor at the United States Shooting Academy has used his XCR to instruct carbine classes and has given the XCR a big thumbs up The well known John Farnam of Defense Training International has put the XCR through the paces and has given it high praise. I can tell you why these opinions matter. Because these guys are experianced gun shooters and are actually putting in their time behind the trigger before making an opinion. And as it turns out, their opinion is positive. Head over to XCR forum to get solid information from real XCR owners and shooters. You'll notice the troubleshooting section is fairly bare with mostly How-to's, general questions, with plenty of operator error to go around. And Robinson stands behind their product. On XCR forum we have a direct line to Terra and Alex. Their response and follow-up are outstanding. Here are some fun videos on youtube of XCR shooters, so you can see what it looks like in motion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF6QeRJAdcE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bJYEBbzUjs&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhCFf2A_VK4 And here is a pic of my XCR

I've got one and should be north of 15K rounds by now. I just got back from rifle instructor school where we put 2000 rounds through it in 5 days.
I did break a firing pin, but the gun still worked, but mags had to be down loaded by 2. On a break I swapped bolts and kept on trucking. I called RA and had two new firing pins at the motel in less than 24 hours. I doubt you will find better customer service. I also talked with Terra about the firing pin problem and they have identified a possible cause of the problem and are working on it. She is even sending me two of the latest pins. I have a degree in metallurgy and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and they seem to be on the right track. When the guns got dirty, I could dial up more gas. AR's can't do that. The way the instructor wanted drills done, the XCR was faster as it had less steps. Both work, but I think the XCR is a step forward. For a piston gun, I would seriously give it a look. I have an early gun and am very pleased with it. It is accurate and reliable (every design has early problems, but the XCR is a well designed gun). What can break is easy to fix by an end user with simple tools and there are less parts to keep on hand versus an AR. I had to fix a PD AR and it took longer to get parts than it did for the XCR and required special tools as well. Some complain about the higher sight plain, but there are ways to account for that. Check out my posts on XCR forum for more info on this. I can tell you that I had made an inexpensive riser that made things the same height as an AR and through school it had to come off. In heavy armor, it was too tight. With a gas mask, it got in the way. Once I removed it, I could get almost the same cheek weld with and without a gas mask. Left hand ergos are better on an XCR, IMHO, especially the bolt release. |
